| Fixing ears.....? Right now I am trying to fix Kodi's ears. I begin at the base of his ears and massage while I run my fingers to the tips of his ears. Is this right? What else do I need to do? If I were not to work on his ears would they ever "fix" themselves? How long do I need to do this? I had never heard of "fixing" ears until the other day......but, now I realize that Kodi's ears need it. Thanks for any help.....:)

| I wondered about that also. Look at the picture of the Rottie at the top left of the Forum. He has the same skillet head and flying nun ears that my furry grrrrrrrl has. To me that's the way they should look! :p

| K-9Girl: According to the AKC standard (http://www.akc.org/breeds/recbreeds/rotty.cfm): "Ears of medium size, pendant, triangular in shape; when carried alertly the ears are level with the top of the skull and appear to broaden it. Ears are to be set well apart, hanging forward with the inner edge lying tightly against the head and terminating at approximately mid-cheek. Serious Faults--Improper carriage (creased, folded or held away from cheek/head)." It's nice to know perfection, but it can be hard to achieve! The easiest way to massage Kodi's ears is to have the dog sit between your legs with Kodi's back to you while you're sitting down yourself. Take your first finger and put it under the dog's ear, from the back, close to Kodi's skull. With your thumbs, gently pull the ears forward and roll your thumbs down the length of the ear. Somewhere I saw a picture of what I described--perhaps another memeber will post info on where this was, because once you see the picture, what I described will immediately be clear. |
