puppy almost died!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Today when I got home from school I did my normal routine open the back door let her out of her crate bring her outside. She seemed to be havin a great time playing in the rain and mud. Then 1 of my cats got outside and I went and got him and all of a sudden I heard a yelp and a splash and look over to the pool and saw her under the water drowning so I put the cat in and dove in and saved her. She had walked up the stairs to the deck and must have thought the pool cover was stable and tried to run on it. I ran inside and dried her off as fast as I could. Then gave her a bath to get all the chemicles off her skin. But I am happy to say She is still the same old good pup. yeah right!!!.

The good thing is that she is ok

I'm glad she is fine:)

I've placed a pole with a flag on the end (kinda like the one you see kids attach to their bikes) on the deck of our pool by the ladder. (for in-ground pools you can just attach the pole directly to the metal banisters by the steps). The pole stands about 3ft high. The reason it is placed at this height is because while they are swimming they have difficulty seeing things at eye level and tend to look upwards. If for some reason someone leaves the deck ladder down, and Zane/Dunya accidently end up in the pool ....they can see the flag and find the ladder to safely escape. Of course, I had them swimming in the pool several times so that they became oriented in relating the flag to where the ladder was.

I had the same thing happen once, where Zane got into the pool when we first got it....so I am very careful but about the security of the pool and supervision of my companions, but I still leave that flag there just in case...........

Puppies are such curious little rascals, aren't they? I'm glad you were there and paying attention. It must have scared the heck out of both you and the puppy!

I don't have a pool in my yard, but I do have a pond that is deep enough for a puppy to drown in. When Luna was little, she was completely fascinated with the fish and would climb over the rock edge to get a better look. She had no idea how deep the water was and I knew it was only a matter of time before she fell in. So one day I let her. I sat on the edge of the pond while she climbed over the edge and was stretching her neck as far as she could to see the fish and sure enough, she lost her balance and fell all the way in. I immediately pulled one very surprised puppy out of the water. She didn't stop watching the fish, but did learn to be careful about leaning too far over the edge.

I had a puppy, about 5 weeks, that almost drowned in a water bucket! A BIG one that she pulled herself up and into. Luckily I was there, met a couple of friends down the road, and we rushed her to the emergency vet clinic (she was only semi-conscious). After a few hours in an oxygen chamber she was fine. And she never lost her love of water! The couple I sold her to had a stock pond that she loved; they had to drag her out bodily if she wasn't ready to get out.
