| What Style of Crate? My last Rotti had an open wire crate with the metal bottom (which we lined with an Xlarge dog bed). He LOVED his crate!!! I tried to take it down once and he howled for two nights until I put it back up for him. Our puppy will be ready to come home in late august, and I need to purchase a new crate. I have friends who have the plastic enclosed type and swear by it. I wanted to get some opinions on what type of crate people on the forum prefer, and why. thank you for all responses. Kali |

| Re: What Style of Crate? I perfer the collapsable (easier to manage) wire crates, with an adjustable wire panel to make the crate smaller during puppy days. I have the ones with a door on the end and one on the side. They are are sized to fit in my jeep. Reasons? My dogs seem to enjoy the view! And I like to see them as well. I like to see what's inside in the way of toys, or if they came in with muddy feet and I have to clean the tray. Some people like the more enclosed versions. Perhaps they seem more like "real dens." I don't know. But I do know mine can be covered! In fact, those heat reflecting/retaining mylar blankets are used at shows all the time, if outdoors. At indoor conformation shows and in the interest of space, it is required that the crates are stackable.

| Re: What Style of Crate? I prefer the wire crates. More air flow for the dog, and they look nicer in my house !

| Re: What Style of Crate? I have both types. I too prefer a metal crate, for all the above given reasons. I also think it is far easier to divide a metal cage vs plastic for a growing pup. |

| Re: What Style of Crate? I have plastic and plan on getting metal. The plastic one takes up so much room. I can't wait to be able to fold up a crate for cleaning, travel and just when I don't want it up. I will probably get a cover b/c Harley has spent four years in the enclosed plastic crate. Also the plastic ones get scratches making it hard to clean properly. |

| Re: What Style of Crate? We, too, have both types. My current boy howled every time we tried putting him in the plastic one, but was perfectly content in the wire crate. I think it's because he could see around him and didn't feel "enclosed"? I don't know, but whatever the reason as long as he was quiet at night we were happy |
