Warning to other members, always have a backup plan!

If you ever end up in the hospital without warning, or on bedrest make sure you have an appropriate, well thought out backup plan for your dog that can be implemented without warning. I'm lucky I had one set up in advance, but if I hadn't I'd be in big trouble right now figuring out how to feed, let out to potty and give Orion exercise.

While I'm not allowed to get out of bed and in and out of the hospital, I have the assurance that Orion is getting her walks, her ball games and watched properly. And when evening falls, she's lying at my side dreaming the dreams of a happy tired dog.

I hope you are ok, glad to hear the pooch is OK but it doesn't sound like much fun for you. Will this mean you can't go to school in AB?

Re: Warning to other members, always have a backup plan!

We'll see, I ate a decent sized meal for the first time in three weeks today doped on meds. I'm not allowed to work, do any housework, or even walk my dog for at least another 15 days. If all is clear then, I can do light housework and throw a ball for pup. I'm not allowed to work for minimum a month, maybe two.

I'm so sorry to hear you've been so sick!! and thanks for the good advice. I, for one, hadn't given much thought to that aspect of owning a couple of rotties.

get well soon!

Styric, Get well soon! Did you have a surgery or something?

It is great that you have someone to tire out your pup while you are ill!

Gracious! Oh please, get well as quick as you can. Glad you had a plan in place! WHEW!

As it happens, I have a plan, and a contingency plan(s) for health/accident/emergency reasons. I also have plans in case of death. My girls and I are very lucky to have caring family, friends, and even neighbors! God bless every danged one of them!

Re: Warning to other members, always have a backup plan!

This is the best advice! I was down for 15 days with pneumonia, don't even remember some of the days that went by. I lived way out in the woods, no neighbors, no family near by... but one kind soul knew she hadn't see us walk for a couple of days so came over and took care of my dogs. She threw in pots of soup for me too ! So yes - please make sure there is someone who knows when you need help!

Re: Warning to other members, always have a backup plan!

So glad you are on the mend. Sounds like you went through more than your share. I just had to say, thanks for the reminder about the dogs. I so did not want to face this issue. It's hard to admit that I don't, as of yet have a plan B. I guess it was my way of avoiding issues I don't want to face. My son is usually available to step up if I need him to watch Lola but, you made me wonder what would happen if he couldn't be here.
I had major surgery many years ago. Thank God for the doc who was generous with the pain meds. He really listened and didn't make me beg for them. When he said enough was enough, I was out of pain and able to be up and about. Took about 6weeks If memory serves me correctly.
Lots of hugs,
Jane

I am so glad I too have a back up plan. A good friend of mine for work, she knows and loves both my doggies and also knows their routines :)

Great advice!! I have a backup plan for death but not for serious illness. I hadn't even thought of it to tell you the truth.

I hope you get well soon!

Re: Warning to other members, always have a backup plan!

My luck has SUCKED this past year, my friends have commented that I have the luck of an innocent man on death row. I don't think I could have made it through as well as I did without having a tail wagging reason to get up in the morning. Especially since I just got hit by the gas bill from the furnace leak a few months ago ($500!!). Gas company said it went past my meter, therefore I pay for it. My landlord is choking over who pays it since I said his furnace, his problem.

Thanks for the wellwishes, I'll be fine :)

I'm pregnant (through multiple forms of bc as well since I can't take anything hormonal), and have a rare form of morning sickness that ended up with me hospitalized when I got so dehydrated despite drinking 12 glasses of water a day that it took 10 minutes to take blood samples. I'd thought it was the flu until my lips and fingernails turned blue and I figured I should probably see a doctor. The walkin was closed due to doctor shortage so I ended up in Urgent Care.

They fully expect me to end up in the hospital a few times more because of it. I've also got more serious complications that give me a 25% chance of keeping the baby. They're not sure if I'll carry, hence the orders to take it EXTREMELY easy.

So I'm miserably ill, can barely eat and they're threatening me with anti nauseants they give chemo patients and tube feeding if I don't behave myself.

It usually takes straps and chains to keep me off my feet but OH threatened me with the same AND to enforce the doctors' threats. I've been busying myself searching the net for snarky comebacks to the comments I'm already getting about how I should be giving up the dog as this breed is dangerous, they're baby eaters. I took an example off this board and replied 'yeah, if the kid doesn't get along with the dog I'll have to rehome the kid'. Sometimes I wonder what people are on. Orion thinks of kids as the worlds greatest invention, walking pez dispensers; their sandwiches and cookies are just at snout level and sulks desperately that she's not allowed around them unsupervised to take advantage of this buffet and lick them all over while she's at it.

Orion is more than slightly ecstatic that I'm home 24/7. All her Christmas' have come at once. Once I'm cleared for light activity, I'm putting a small amount of the money I had set aside for moving to Alberta (I got the job too.. $17 an hour *sigh) and going to pester Orion's foster family. Who happens to be one of the top agility trainers in Manitoba. She'd LOVE to see one of her puppies again and we've both been too busy to coordinate a time. Orion's heel needs some serious work... and that agility equipment is beckoning.
