I purchased a puppy from a breeder that I got 2 puppies off in the past. I had the puppy fixed at 6 months old and enrolled her into a bunch of puppy classes. The only problem was we could not get this dog to stop biting. With all options tried I called the breeder (which I had made friends with over the years) who said they would come out and get the dog, train it and then return it once she stopped biting. With the thought of having the perfect dog I said alright. The breeder came down and took the puppy saying that once she was trained I could have it back. I called the next day and no phone call was returned. A couple of days later I emailed her and no email was returned. Finally, a few days later I recieved an email stating that she had given my dog away. Shocked! Her response was that I am not bringing her back, she is with a good home and there is nothing I can do about it. I went to our local police department which told me the same thing, there was nothing I could do. All standard contracts from breeders say that if they get possesion of the dog after you purchase it, it now becomes theirs. I am now out a family pet, thousands of dollars and someone who was once my friend betrayed me. I just wanted all of you to be aware of what can happen to you.

Re: Read Your Contracts I'm sorry that happened to you. How old was the puppy when you first began obedience classes with her? Every dog of the same is different. Some do not bite much when teething and redirection is much easier, than others. How often did you practice what was learned at the obedience school with her? (IE. 45 minutes a day, broken down into 15 minute sessions throughout the day) How many times a day and for how long did you take her out for walks? I'm not saying what the breeder did was right or that you're wrong, just trying to get the whole picture of what may have made the breeder think the dog would be better in another home. ETA: What was your reaction when the dog play bit you (how did you handle it)?

Re: Read Your Contracts She when to puppy school 12 weeks old then when no to obedience after that. I had both 2 other dogs before and they were good dogs . From her before when she bite she would draw blood . We did everything . The dog did all her commands 3 people in the houses we all did it throughout the day. She was a good dog but for her biting we took her for 2hour and 45 mins then she come back and bite again.

It seems a bit unreal to me that you would envision someone else (the breeder) creating the "perfect dog" for you. I hope your present puppy is a better fit for you and that you can help her become a good dog by your own effort and learning. |

Re: Read Your Contracts I'm sorry to hear that you didn't completely understand your contract and relinquished your dog to the breeder. I too have spent many trying hours trying to get my pup to stop biting, and have the scrapes and bruises to prove it. However, I must agree that the breeder isn't completely in the wrong here. She may have just saved you and your family a lot of grief and possible the life of your dog. Biting is a serious problem and if you are unable to correct it the chances of you and your dog being another one of those "rottweiler gone bad" headlines is very likely. If your breeder as able to find someone else who is willing and able to take on the task of correcting this problem, more power to them. It is, after all the breeders responsibility to find the best possible home for each pup. If you were willing to let the breeder take the pup back, you must have been at the end of your rope. It is unfortunate that you couldn't have come to a more acceptable agreement, a pup from the next litter maybe? Although rotts have similar traits, their personalities are very different. My last rott was a gem, gentle, trustworthy and easy to train. The pup I have now is a real firecracker, smart as a whip and very stubborn, and yes when I first got her I thought that I just bought one of the beasts from hell. She growled, she bit and she constantly challenged my patience. But I wouldn't give her up for a minute. I have whittled her "aggressive" behaviour down to some mouthing when playing and an occasional nip on my sleeve [which sometimes catches my skin] when she's got the zoomies. We still have a long way to go, but it is so worth the results. She is 6 months old and we are now in our 3rd session of training. Were the previous pups you got from this breeder rotts? How old is the pup that was returned? You mentioned you tried everything to stop the biting... what methods did you try?

Re: Read Your Contracts I don't know about all the obedience classes and such & such. But the breeder, who in my opionion, done you wrong. She should have refunded your money. She's a rip off, even if the law was not on your side. She will have to answer to higher consequences one day. Sorry you had to go thru that. I know it wasn't easy. I had to put a dog down that was 9 months old, and the vet. told me it was due to the disease the puppy picked up when it was at the breeders, due to poor conditions, unclean kennel, feces etc. I contacted the man and he could care less. He made his money.
