Perhaps she will come back and tell us which way it was.
To the OP, if that was a typo in your comment and it was meant to say ON to obedience school after puppy classes, my apology.

Re: Read Your Contracts

How old was this pup?

Not sure how much your trainer charges, but $2000 would get me through until my pup was almost 3 years old with weekly training every week for 2-1/2 years.

You say she betrayed you, but you're not blaming her? Of course you're blaming her with a statement like that.

My dog is 2-1/2, and my cost for a once a week class since she was 10 weeks old has been about $1400 so far.......did you return a puppy or an adult dog?

Re: Read Your Contracts

Have you noticed that it's "always" the breeders fault when things go South? When in actuality it's the owners fault for either, i.e. lack of knowledge, TRAINING or just plain not listening! Consistancy along with positive motivation will train any dog that is "wired correctly". Unless this dog wasn't wired right, then I see it all being your fault and not the breeder. Yes reading ANY contract in life is a must. Read and UNDERSTAND what you are signing. If you don't, then so be it. Live and learn.

So you spent $2000 in FIVE MONTHS for training??? That's $100 a WEEK........TEN TIMES what I pay for some excellent training classes. Apparently the training your dog received wasn't all that great since there was no improvement. I'd find an all breed obedience club in your area for training with your new puppy - very good, and very affordable as well.

I have a feeling she did.....and it's a shame you don't see that she did you and the puppy a huge favor by recognizing that things were only going to get worse, and perhaps dangerous as well.

I'm with you Moondog... spending that kind of money on training is insane, when there are lots of great trainers that charge $10-$20 per class.

I'm beginning to think we are not hearing the whole story here, and if we did it may just be a better lesson for breeders than for buyers.

Re: Read Your Contracts

Debra-- just a little advice. Don't write a separate post for every sentence. You can respond to different people in a single post. Much easier to read.

I do agree that you have spent more than you needed to in terms of training. I would think there are more reasonably priced options when you are ready to take your new pup to class.

I'm not entirely ready to blame the breeder here either. We WANT breeders to take ongoing responsibility for the dogs they produce. (we see too many back yard types who don't) This breeder did that. (and apparently went by the terms of her contract). If she determined that you and this pup were not a good fit, and the behavior problem needed to be addressed by another owner who could correct it, she did right by the dog.

Re: Read Your Contracts

You know I agree that the breader finding a new home was probably the right thing to do. But what about honesty? The breader should have offered her a solution. new pup, refund, somthing along those lines. For her just to trick Debra and lie to her is not right. I would be willing to think that any of us would be VERY upset also. But then again there are alway three sides to a story. Debras, the breeder and the truth. Sounds like Debra was just trying to give advise and is getting bashed for doing that. But if Debras side is the truth then I still think the Breeder should have done something to remidy this.
