Re: Another ignorant person

Stale!! That is the most OUTRAGEOUS story I have ever heard!!!! I cannot believe those people!!!!

I am really sorry they tried to manipulate the situation that much and tried to pin it on your dog who had NOTHING to do with it.

I hope you don't have anymore issue with those people...and I surely don't blame you for knocking uncle on his arse!

Re: Another ignorant person

meh, i'll go be civil at them later this week - i'm actually kind of fond of the kids when they're not trespassing.

the mother has hated Oz (and any dog larger than a puntable) since day one - i expect she's the source of the hysteria. not the first time i've been toe to toe with their wonderous uncle. had to deal with him over a noise complaint before - apparently he can't tell the difference between my place and the halfway house a block away. turned up screaming at me over the music that i wasn't playing, ready to take a shot at me.

it's really sad - they're a refugee family from uganda (sp?) who only know broken french - unfortunately, I only know broken french, so communication is rather vague between us. the uncle seems far too ready to try and settle things with his fists, despite multiple warnings that im trained in hand to hand combat. one would think he'd get tired of being knocked down, but it seems he's a slow learner. thinking soon enough i'm going to let him hang a shiner on me, just so i've something to show the cops.

can't believe this - i'm still twitching, i'm so angry. i would have let the whole screaming match slide, and just forgotten them by now, but he kicked at Oz - for which he is incredibly lucky he only got winded and knocked down, and to top it off they had the balls to call AC on me.

i don't want to get the authorities involved, since they are an immigrant family with communication issues, but there's a limit on my patience. gods - all i was doing this morning was checking my yard to make sure there were no bloody raccoons out there before i let Oz out. there are days i want to resign from the human race.

thanks folks, for letting me vent at all of you. going to have a "theraputic" smoke, then take Oz down to the beach to try and fetch some gulls. [EDIT] he never actually catches the gulls, by the way, he just runs around under them. still, funny to see our carting/herding breed act like he's a gun dog.

WHOA, Stale! WOW! Mountain (of $hite) out of a molehill problem, there. What a bunch of crap! Honestly, where are these folks brains? Oh, never mind...I think I know. They don't have any! (thought I was going to say the gleuteus maximus thing?)

You must be livid. I would be. Now you'll have to go around the block with your tale before they get their version out. Hurry. Do it while they're out sulking and licking their wounded egos. Be QUICK!

damn - hadn't even thought about that - i don't see most of the folks around here, aside from on walks - didn't occur to me that anyone else would worry about it. i mostly only see the local kids out playing when we walk by. i did ask my immediate neighbour's daughter if she worried about Oz biting, but she told me;

"Ozzy wouldn't bite me - his tongue is too big. besides, i gots cookies!" and she did. a pocket full of goldfish crackers. (i've been telling her since we got Oz that all the has to do when she sees him out is tell him 'down' then give him a 'cookie' and he'd be her friend. till now i've provided snacks from the seemingly endless supply in my pocket.)

so, she's taken care of - guess i'll have to be extra social on my next few walks to cover the rest of the area. Oz will love the extra attention. i try to get any child that will come close enough to make him do something - sit, down, shake a foot - then give him a snack. kind of an active campaign to teach the children both how to approach a dog safely, and that rottweilers aren't evil. (and to all you parents out there - yes, i do make sure the children's parents are right there and approving.)

hopefully nothing much else comes of this, but if it does, i'll just out-cute them. or at least, Ozzy will, i hope.

Re: Another ignorant person

I love Janus' story! HE knew he was a therapy dog, especially with a child-I'm convinced rotties know about little kids and love them. Kids don't have any hidden agendas and dogs know that! Just look at "Carl"! Thanks for being such a great advocate for our big angels.

Re: Another ignorant person

Definately doesn't sound like that Uncle is the brightest crayon in the box....LOL.I would be so pissed if anyone kicked at my dog...but don't let their ignorance ruin your day. Enjoy your time at the beach.. I can just picture a silly rott trying herd some seagulls! ahahaha.

So I have ANOTHER story.

Marley's dog training club holds it's classes in the back of a specialty petstore, which is great IMO, lost of extra socialization outside of the classes.

Well, we had just got done with classes lastnight and my husband and I were browsing (which isn't hard b/c it's super small LOL) and this guy walks up to us with his kid. Now when we stop to look at something or when people walk by us in the tiny isles...Marley is put into a sit stay. Extra practice for him, and it works out really well for us. So when I see him approching us, Marley is put in a sit stay.

He says to us, "He a full blooded rott?"
I tell him, Yep he's a purebred.
He says "He German?"
and said nope, he was born in America. :)
So then he asks me "How old is he?
I tell him he's 8 months old today.
"Where did you get him?"
and I tell him "A less than reputable breeder."
He asks "how much?"
I told him he was $500 but that was b/c he was a BYB and didnt have any health guarantee, no contract, no clearances or titles for the parents...nothing.
Then he asks me, "DOES HE HAVE ANY LEFT?!?!?!?"

So I tell him "I wouldn't know, I am sure one or two are in a shelter somewhere. If you are looking to get a Rottweiler you should look for a good breeder, one who has OFA certified dogs..."
Now as I am saying this, he CUTS me off to tell me that he knows about OFA's but he's not paying more than $500. So I tell him, you get what you pay for.

Then this man has the balls to tell me," It doesn't matter, they get the job done" ?!?!?!?!?!?!??!?! At this point I am getting extremely angry, my husband is PISSED and Marley is starting to get a little antsy from sitting for so long and I think he might have been able to tell I was starting to get upset.

So I just look at him like "what?" but I couldnt bring myself to ask him what he ment by that... b/c I knew what his answer would have been. And at the risk of him saying something stupid about fighting a dog, I knew my husband would have dropped him in his place.
I look at him and his son and say "Yea, he sure does. He's great with my children and an awesome family dog. If you do find a good Rottweiler pup, I would recommend this training club. They are on the AKC website if you want more information.
I give marley his release work, he looks at me and I tell him "let's go" and he stays DEAD at my side. My dog has never healed so beautifully in his life. Shoot, we're still learning it!

I couldnt believe what had just happened. I was dumbfounded and my husband was pissed. But Marley was incredible!!!!!!! He was so poised and acted like he had been in training for YEARS.

I suppose we will always run into these types of people but MAN, they getcha everytime!

Re: Another ignorant person

A few days ago my Rottie was with me here at our pharmacy and she was laying down behind the counter. One guy came in and said "those are great dogs" and I smiled and agreed, when he added "I use mine for dog fights", I guess the nicest word I told him was idiot and told him to leave my store.

I admire those of you that handle bad situations so well, especially Stale and Marleysmom - all my respect to you!

I would have gotten his name and personal info and reported him to the cops and ASPCA. I don't think I would have told him a kinder word than "idiot".

Cool Re: Another ignorant person

I'm PROUD of you chicatropical! You don't need that kind of "business"-maybe he'll never come back and at least think about how you responded! My vet and I got into the fighting dogs discussion one day and she said they used to try to fight rotties but they just wouldn't do it. I hope that's true everywhere. Michael Vick has sure brought out this topic and although I can't stand him for that reason, people are becoming more and more aware of this atrocity. I certainly am not nice to anyone that I even suspect may be involved or even know anyone who is. My husband always says "no one has to ask what you're thinking!" I used to take it as an insult but you know: truth is truth period!
