| Re: Another ignorant person Thank you. Something just crossed my mind. Janus hasn't sat or stayed put like that since that day. I'm thinking he knew there was something different and special about this little girl. We still go to the same store, but he doesn't behave like that anymore. But everyone still thinks he's cute and want to pet him anyway.

| Re: Another ignorant person Janus mom....your story is very touching ![]() I have a vet and ignorant people story. About 6 weeks ago I took our year and a half old girl Sasha to the vet. This is a huge, very busy office. So, I am standing there waiting to check out and Sasha is in a sit stay on my left side. Dogs are walking all around her and although I can see she would LOVE to play, she is sitting and staying. A guy to the right of me who is waiting for his dog to come out from boarding says "Beautiful Dog"...Meanwhile this lady comes in from outside, scopes out the waiting room that is filled with probably 12 dogs, singles me out with my dog in a SIT STAY while others were pulling on the lead, etc, comes over to me and says, "Does your dog fight with other dogs"...well, ya know, it was a long day...I was tired, a bit crabby, extremely worried about my girl, the last thing I needed another ignorant comment by another uneducated person. So, I replied back with "No, she just eats them". Of course she looks horrified, I chuckle and say, "look at her in comparison to the other dogs in here, does it look like she fights with other dogs?" SHe says, "Oh...well, since she doesn't fight with other dogs I'll bring my dog in". As if she wasn't going to bring her dog in because there was a dreadful ROTTWEILER in the room. SO, the guy to the right of me who commented on Sasha is smirking during all this. A minute later, out come his rottie and pit bull from boarding. He walks past me and says, "don't you get tired of the comments?" Now the same lady looked even more nervous and of course shielded her dog when the rottie and pit bull went by. At that point, I approached her, with Sasha who immediately sat on my left side when I stopped walking, and I showed her a picture that I had with me of Sasha licking our then 5 day old newborn baby. I said, "Do you think I would allow this if she was dangerous?" I went on to say that Rotties, LIKE ALL DOGS, need proper handling and training....tried to give her a little education, etc....hopefully it worked a little. I walk her a lot and I also get so tired of the people that will actually CROSS a busy, main street when they see her coming. So sad, such a misunderstood breed. |

| Re: Another ignorant person Janus'sMom..that story brought me to tears, how incredible that you and your dog brought such joy to that little girl :) You must have been so proud of your baby! Sharman 2004... good for you for not taking any nonsence off that woman, and for trying to educate her. I could not help but to crack up when you told her she eats them! ahahahaha. Btw, I hope all is well that warranted the trip to the vet :) |

| Re: Another ignorant person Nancy, that was an inspiring story. Good boy Janus! It's these knids of things, a little at a time, that help dispell unfounded rumors and negativism. Good Rottie PR. Now, if just everyone were able to contribute positive PR!...

| Re: Another ignorant person I still feel like I'm glowing with pride when I tell people what a good boy Janus was that day. And every time we walk into that store Janus gets an extra cookie from the workers that were there that day. So I've come to the conclussion today that dispite dbf's remarks, I'm gonna to see about having Janus become a thearapy dog. Bbf says he's too hyper and doesn't listen enough. I simply tell him "well you're the same way, and I still go out with you in public " But with time, training, and socialization I think Janus will be a great candidate for this. Besides, it's not like he'll be perfect over night.

| Re: Another ignorant person Some people I tell you its just frustrating...... Three weeks ago Chili & I were at a dog show.....now picture 10 month old over stimulated puppy who is having the time of her life meeting people, other dogs, you name it. Anyway we were just heading out of the building for a potty break and there was a man/woman with small child in a stroller. The woman LOUDLY says "oh look honey would you like to pet the puppy?" to her child and then looks at us. I was somewhat surprised as most uneducated people with children cross the street to avoid a rott so I made the special effort of stopping so that the child could pet Chili. I made Chili sit and she rested her head on the stroller's food tray in front of the little one and the little one petted her and she was surprisingly calm and sedate (for once in her life ![]() )....then she noticed that the child wasn't wearing any socks and so started the whole toe licking thing that she LIVES FOR when I come out of the shower. The child was giggling, dad was crouched down petting Chili and telling her what a good girl she was when IT HAPPENED........THE DREADED QUESTION from mom......."So what breed of dog is this?"...............in a nanosecond it took me to say "rottweiler" ......mom yanked the stroller and child back so hard I thought the child was going to get whiplash.....then started loudly berating her husband for not telling her that Chili had been a rottweiler and screaming "WHAT IF IT HAD BITTEN HER?" at her husband. All the other dog show people who witnessed the exchange all came up to pet Chili and tell her what a good girl she was.....I simply walked away from the family........I have found you just can't reason with irrational thought. I think next time Chili is going to be black/tan coonhound![]() Pretty sad! Heather |

| Re: Another ignorant person I'm starting to think that maybe I'll just keep telling people that he's the greatest breed... American Licker... he was american bred, and american born... and he loves to lick. I still can't believe that woman, don't ya think Chilli would've bit the child by the time she found out what breed she is. If Chilli was that dangerious that you would have let them bring the baby over. What a (CENSORED)! Thank yoe for having enough sense about you to just walk away without a word. I would n't have handled it that gracefully

| Re: Another ignorant person Omg, Onyxgold... on a "ridiculous" scale from 1-10 the reaction from that mother would be a 11... you must have been in loss for words at that point. lol sharman, great answer! So most of you are from Canada, USA or even Europe, where "I" consider(ed) ppl are the most "civilized and educated"... lol, yeah right! Even here, where most ppl cannot read or write know my dog is a "Ro-waile" (you should hear how that is pronounced) and when I say "dont worry, she is not dangerous" they just make that stupid comment "yeah, but she has teeth, doesnt she?" ... "yeah, so do I and I have a real bad temper, are you afraid of me mauling you?"....answer - "no".... me - "well you should" ... lol... geez Dont you sometimes feel bad for your dog that is being pet by someone and then left standing there like a monster when people run away suddenly? |

| Re: Another ignorant person oh, such fun ignorant people - i just had to chase the animal control away, after they came to check up on me and my "dangerous" dog. there's a family down the street, father, mother, older daughter, and two twins. about 4 hours ago now, i caught the one twin climbing over my back gate (still don't know why, she wouldn't tell me) and the other one in my back yard. after yelling at twin #1, twin #2 bolted through the gate i had just opened - directly into the hose spool thingy. it's cast iron, with little spikes on it. she got a scalp wound. what fun. now we have two kids, one bolting for home, the other one with a series of small holes in her forehead. great. so i carry the stupid child home, pass her to her dad, and tell him exactly what i found in my yard. he takes the kid and rushes her to the sink to clean her up. all good so far. this was about 4 hours ago. less than 1 hour ago, stupid children's uncle came by to scream at me over letting my dog bite his niece (Ozzy was in his box this whole time - no idea at all how he thought that my dog got his retarded niece.) so, Oz, hearing me yell back at this guy, jumps up from where he was laying on the porch and starts barking. idiot uncle takes a kick at the dog, and i dropped uncle in his tracks. open handed hit onto the sternum, then knocked him down my steps. told him if he comes near my property again, the cops will collect him in traction. just now, right before i wrote this, animal control shows up about a "vicious dog who mauled a child and knocked down a man from down the street." after showing the AC fellow Oz (once again in his box) i drag him down the street to meet the twins, and daddy. mom and the uncle are out sulking somewhere - not at home. stupid twin #2 tells the AC fellow that she ran "into the water holder" (i explain to the AC dude that this is a hose reel) and her dad points out that I am the one who brought the kid home. he knows my dog, and me, and pointed out to the AC guy that the dog had nothing to do with it. seems his wife called her brother to complain that somehow my dog had attacked her child, and to add insult to injury, her brother claimed that Oz knocked him down, instead of me. the father liked me well enough, until today, and has always let his kids pet Oz when we were walking. so, Oz is ok, AC fellow just left, shaking his head. the twins and daddy are ok. daddy was left with a message for his BiL and wife though, that if EVER anyone from that family comes onto my property again, they'll be leaving with either the cops or in a body bag. gods, i'm pissed. not enough to have a six foot gate on my yard - thinking of glueing broken bottles to the top of it now. people just suck. |

OH MY GOSH! What an afternoon for you! Good for you sticking up for Oz though! Glad everything is ok and I hope you don't have any more issues with those neighbors! Sounds like the kids don't have a chance with mom and uncle willing to make up anything that comes to mind. |
