[quote=Anne;821975]Because YOUR dog doesn't give a warning growl doesn't mean other Rottweilers don't if they think it necessary. However you seem to have changed the subject to be about barking dogs rather than dogs giving a warning growl and turning on their owners

Speaking for myself, I'd rather take advice from the people on this forum who collectively have have immense knowledge and experience with the Rottweiler breed. If in your opinion Google is a more reliable source of information then go for it.

Quote:
Dogs will usually behave the way we, as owners, train them to behave.
That's what it is all about.Lack of training and being ignorant of the dog's behavior and language. When all goes well and nothing special happens an untrained dog can behave without big issues, when he can do as he likes. On some occasions it is necessar to forbid,or to make the dog do things he just don't feel like.Lack of training and leardership will cause then a conflict-situation and some dogs will turn against the owner. What never will be told in these stories is what caused the issiue because ,it is almost always the owners own stupidity and ,maybe unwanted, provocation causing the agressive behavior.

My dogs ignore other dogs unless both owners ok them to meet and greet.

This type of thing is complete ignorance. One time we had some people over and one lady said, as she was petting Marley, "You know, Rockweilers will turn on you someday". I thought, what an idiot, and said "well you had better stop petting her then" It just blew me away.

Didnt change the subject,.... I was just making an example about how my dog isnt a big barker... saying that he may not give a warning sign before a bite... which goes back to the original subject saying that some people think rottweilers turn on you.. I simply said that ii have heard that some rottweilers dont give a warning growl or bark which will make some people think their dog has turned on them if they dont know subtle signs of aggravation or aggression... not off the subject to me

Re: I heard something bad about rotts..

Dogs are honest - rarely (that would go back to a dog with a tumor or some other brain issue for them to qualify in that rare category of 'just snapping') are there NO SIGNS at all of a dog getting angry, frustrated, agitated .... it may be a long time coming and owners who do not know how to read a dog won't see it until they get bitten or almost bitten.

My mom too, fits the group of the 'thems' in the world who take their advice and get their canine wisdom from people who have owned one or 2 family pets in their lives who may have taken those pets to training, maybe didn't, but just somehow know that Rotts, Pitties, what have you, can just snap. Never mind listening to ME with my dog experience, who am I?

It is frustrating and quite annoying, and also quite false.

The best trick to have is a wealth of knowledge to throw back at these people when they say such uneducated things.

Thumbs down Re: I heard something bad about rotts..

If a Rottweiler is left alone to long in the house or any other building they tend to dominate that space, hence the turning on their owners. So the moral of the story is "DON,NT" leave or rottweiler to long.

This is really a great new one(legend).
What happens when the packleader returns is:he is welcomed by the other members with submission. If not:the returned "leader" is ,or was even before, not accepted as highest in rank.(See my comment above what can cause this behavior.)

Tell me you don't own a Rottweiler and you are still spewing out stuff like that?

That's brilliant - I wonder why I still haven't been bitten, eaten or even so much as threatened by my almost 11 year old and my 6 year old Rottweilers? I have lived with them, as have my children, for a very long time and yet, no injuries .... Hmmmm.... perhaps the training they have done all their lives ... or maybe I am just one of the lucky ones ;o(!

Re: I heard something bad about rotts..

I have a stupid question: what exactly is "turning on you" ??? One day your rottie loves you and has been with you for years, and the next day he "turns" on you...I think not. I've had one dog in years past who developed distemper and "went crazy" but this was a neurological disease-we did have a hard time capturing her and getting her to the vet for euthanasia but we managed. In my mind (a very simple one I must admit) the dog must either be deeply inbred, trained, or have a serious neurological problem to get up one day and "turn on" his owner...any thoughts???

Re: I heard something bad about rotts..

Yeah, that kind of turning on you as with something like distemper or a brain tumor, but those with the wisdom of many years of reading newspapers and owning cats think that a dog can just snap and act like that just because it is a certain breed ....
