| dog breaks cable tie-out This is just an FYI for those who might consider using a cable to contain their dog...I was chatting with my neighbor over my fence when we saw a bunny in the yard across the street. It had just hopped down into the next yard when we heard this loud "pop" and the neighbor's dobie came running out from the side yard after the rabbit. Several neighbors who had been outside went running after the dobe...the bunny escaped and the dog was caught. The owner came out..said it was a brand new cable...my friend (who was one of the ones who went after Justice) saw the cable and said it was quite thick...apparantly a "motivated" dog is capable of snapping it without much effort!! |

| Re: dog breaks cable tie-out Thats pretty crazy; those cables are thick! I would think there is more of a chance to pull one out of the ground!

| Re: dog breaks cable tie-out Nope. It snapped right in two...I saw the owner holding both ends. |

| Re: dog breaks cable tie-out The cables decay even when encased in plastic. Constant exposure to the elements means they have maybe 6 months use from what I have seen. I never leave my 2 outside w/o me present.

| Re: dog breaks cable tie-out I can believe it. When a dog is determined to do something, they're going to do it. I had a brick in my house, that I had wrapped in material. I used it as a door stop as it's a brick and very heavy, and the material wrapped around it was so the door would not get scratched. I heard this big bang one day. Went to go look and Neyla thought it would be a great idea to pick the brick up and toss it around the house like a ball. I'm just glad no one got hurt. Maybe the neighbour will look into fencing his yard, placing a kennel run if fencing is not an option at the time, or stay outside with his dog to supervise. |

| Re: dog breaks cable tie-out One can hope!!! Unfortunately, his dog frequently gets loose...almost got my other neighbor's cat...when she went over to his home to let him know what happened, he told her "it's just a cat....I've got a DOBERMAN...and you've got a cat...get over it". I can't tell you how many times it's run across the street to run up and down my fence line (which drives my dogs NUTS!!!). They now hate this dog...they even recognize the SUV the owner drives and go bezerk when it goes by. |

| Re: dog breaks cable tie-out You should call AC on that owner they shouldn't own that dog or any other. Unfortunately there are many people who think that way and it's a good reason to keep your cats indoors. |

| Re: dog breaks cable tie-out I've found out how a determined puppy can get lose as well. Janus was only 3 months old and on his 3rd collar (outgrew the other 2). I had just bought it and it was his first day wearing it. He saw our cat outside while he was tied to the cable to go potty, and decided it's time to play "case the cat". Needless to say, the cable was fine and in one piece, but the metal hoop on his collar to hook him up to the cable snapped completely off in one shot! So once I gathered up Janus, I had to go back to the store and get a bigger collar and put in an extra hole to make it the propper size. And yes I was outside (having a ciggi) on the porch when this all happened. |
