Re: I have a question about Toys...

Yep..I got "pelt" carriers too! Pretty much any stuffed toys can be torn apart with a rottie. The tuffies got expensive and kind of scary as they end up in larger pieces (black rimming) and I got a little nervous about them eating that. Canine genius makes a kong like toy that you can connect (a little more interesting for my two) and those will hold their attention if they have good stuff in them. For the most part I buy stuffed toys on clearance knowing full well they are going to meet a quick demise...but they have a TON of fun with them.....Tina

There are other critters though, give them a try! Here's a link so you can see what they look like, but I bought mine from petsmart.

The red lobster is the very first Tuffies toy I bought my dogs. It's still going strong 2+ years later. I've bought other Tuffies toys since then and my most recent purchase was a small T Rex (he stands to my knee). I found it online @ Care-a-Lot Pet Supply for about $15 less than what I spent in a local store.

Another toy my dogs really like is the Air Kong squeaker football. That thing's also lasted for a couple years.

Re: I have a question about Toys...

I've decided that toys fall into 3 categories. toys they can play with by themselves, toys they can play with each other with while we watch and supervise and toys that we play with them with.

the first consists of only; nylabones, kongs and a buster cube
the second: tugs, (rope and other tough material) tirebiters, fire hose, both real and a toy called that. I braid fat strips of burlap bags, jean legs and wrap, tape or tie the ends securely. and yes, they play rottie soccer with jugs, and love them.
the third, things we throw, tug toys and some stuffies. I do a lot of training with stuffies, because Boris loves them so. he is very tender for about 3 minutes, tossing them around and pouncing on them. then I give him a treat and we start over.

I've tried almost every toy ever mentioned or seen. my dogs destroy all of them in record time.

I want to just pass on a little I've learned about toys. Boris had a serious impaction/obstruction from ingesting a portion of a fleece tug, I've heard of the strings from rope tugs becoming dangerously hung up. so it is best not to pull them out the other end. when dogs eat pieces of toys, they can become lodged in the intestines, become infected (I guess is the right word) and begin to cause necrotic tissue poisoning them that can lead to death. a member here posted about a near miss with her pup when he ate a squeaker that became lodged and infected. a friend of mine lost her dog when she ate a super ball and the same thing happened, 2 surgeries later. Of course my dog has eaten polyfill, underwear, socks and who know what else that he has passed. Others have posted about dogs eating crazy things....phones, remotes, pacifiers....But it is good to remember, obstructions and infection in the intestines can become medical emergencies and fatalities very fast.

My Beau LOVES stuffies... He has torn them apart, but plays with each peice.. His favorite is the destuffed antler of a reindeer... He holds onto that thing like it is worth a million dollars... Go figure... You buy them a $15 kong, and they like their deflated reindeer antler better... To each his own I guess!

LOL........that's so funny!! Xena also had her small piece of antler-ear in her little 'pile' of toys!! She didn't like the Christmas hat enough to spare it's very existance, but she loves the little fragment that's left! LOL.........
She was so great............

MK

P.S. The 'Kong' has been buried at the back of her crate since she was a puppy.......she never DID like it much.

I have to agree these Tire biters are great.. For my dog it lasts about a month until we slowly start to find small tire pieces around the house..

Re: I have a question about Toys...

I found a brand of toys at a dog show a couple of weeks ago that SO FAR are holding up to the wear and tear that my guys put them thru. I bought a soccer ball and a large square dice. The brand is Orbee-Tuff and they are distributed by a company called Planet Dog Planet Dog.

Thus far I'm impressed with them...but like I said its only been a couple of weeks!!

Best part tho that I like is that they allegedly have a 100% guarantee on them that if your dog does kill the toy they will replace it......no clue if they would actually back up that guarantee or not but it says they do on the label!!
