| Jogging w/rott Is jogging for 2 miles with a 4 month old rott too much exercise for him? |

| Re: Jogging w/rott strikes me as a bit excessive, yeah. their bones and joints are still forming, and any prolonged repetetive excercise can be damaging - especially jogging, which keeps your dog at a trot. now, were you walking a mile or so twice a day, that's different. your pup certainly needs excercise (they all do) and a mile won't be all that damaging. |

| Re: Jogging w/rott I was told not to run Nisha until her joints and bones were completely developed. She is now 15 months, and I just started "jogging" her on the dirt trail around our house. I am not in great running condition, so we take frequent breaks to walk . I would be concerned about running a 4 month old period. Especially if you are doing it on hard surfaces (concrete).

| Re: Jogging w/rott I would say that's way too much too young. My breeder made me sign an agreement that I would do any road work with her until she's 2 years. The farthest we go now [she's 29 weeks] is a 2 km walk consisting of 1 km on the beach off lead, totally at her own pace, and 1 km of leash work. I do admit that she doesn't seem at all tired afterwards, but we make a point of limiting the distance for the sake of her joints. |

| Re: Jogging w/rott Yes. He far too young for that much stress on his joints. Rottweilers take l-o-n-g time to mature physically. Roadwork at 1.5 - 2 years is early enough. Walking with short spurts of jogging, on softer surfaces than pavement? Perhaps. I should mention that my B-I-L did a great deal of jogging thru out his 20's and 30's. He has had joint problems, himself for over 10-12 years, now. He recently had a hip replacement and is facing the possibility of the other hip as well. He just turned 56.

| Re: Jogging w/rott it has been my experience...also from advice from some folks who live and breed rotties that jogging before they are at least 12 months old is a no no..additionally they should never be jogged for extended period of times on pavement. Yes they are working dogs, but they are also working dogs that are prone to hip dysplasia, elbow problems, crusheite problems etc... be gentle with the baby. |
