Re: Trying to find cool collar for my rottie

I have gotten three collars from this website and they are really nice. They have collars for the "pampered tough guy" that have modified spikes on them and their name, they look pretty good actually!

Just my 2 cents, but if you want to impress people with your dog, then put some work and show titles on the dog. I think that is a thousand times more impressive than some gimmicky collar. Again, just my 2 cents.

Re: Trying to find cool collar for my rottie

What about studs instead of spikes? Harley has a leather Harley Davidson collar with small, blunt spikes and studs both. It looks great, but the spikes do hurt when he rubs or leans on me. I personally think it all depends on how big and pointy the spikes are. I'm a total Harley Davidson nut, so Harley's collar had to be HD. They make nylon too, but they fade pretty quick.
I wanted to add that these collars seem to attract dirt and are hard to clean b/c of the spikes.

Re: Trying to find cool collar for my rottie

Everyone has different tastes, I dont think its OUR place to judge the OP because of his/her taste. I have seen MANY small dogs with horrible pink studded collars, to me it just the OP showing his taste in the collar selection.

I personally dont like them but everyone has their own taste.

I dont judge bikies by the way they look, they have tattoos, look rough, but does that make them bad, no. Therefore just because a person wants a studded collar on their dog doesn't necessarily make their dog bad. People should not judge a person by the way they look, nor a dog for the collar they wear.

Just my 2 cents worth.

Skip, who said he/she wasn't doing that already, they only asked for a suggestion on where to buy a collar. But I DO agree with you, titles and OB titles are a LOT more impressive.

If it was just asking "where to buy a collar", then my reply would have been different. With all the BSL activists coming to our doors, in my opinion, the dog doesn't need the bad press or misinterpretation that a spiked collar purveys. BSL isn't coming after the "bikies", and I could care less about what they wear or their tattoos. People DO judge our breed with how they look and act, and, in my opinion, this type of collar doesn't help the situation. The breed doesn't need gimmicky collars like this. My opinion.

Re: Trying to find cool collar for my rottie

Well if i would have asked where to buy a collar the responses would have been much too broad. I am looking for a specific type of collar. MY rottie is very well trained and just because I want a spiked collar doesnt mean I am trying to scare people off. I am also looking for stud collars. I dont see how theres such a big difference between studs and spikes. Anyways thanks all for the great website links

Re: Trying to find cool collar for my rottie

lol, we had a pink spiked collar on our girl when she was like 15ish weeks old... NEVER AGAIN. At that point she was a wiggle body instead of just a wiggle butt and the stupid collar hurt more than her baby teeth!

But yes, google "leather collar" or "spiked collar" and usually you can find sizes big enough for ours. I've gone through a lot of random sites on the internet and have been pleased every time so far. Just remember, you get what you pay for! Good luck :)

I do get your point, dont get me wrong, but i honestly dont think that a collar will change the opinion of those who's mind sets have already been made up about our breed. Most people with common sence (and i am assuming, yes i know i shouldn't assume, people do have that) would know that a collar does not indicate a dog is bad. Perhaps I am wrong. I am more scared of those ankle biter types of dog, specifically those carried around in a handbag you KNOW the owner has little or no sence, its a dog and it has legs, let it walk...

*hehehe* I was talking of those ratdogs, the white fluffy carry in the handbag type dog with the designer spiked pink collar.

And yes, i imagine it would hurt like hell to get spiked by one of those collars, they are not for me, I just dont think we should judge someone for the own personal taste.

Re: Trying to find cool collar for my rottie

nothing wrong with wanting a spike/stud collar.
almost every commercial or movie my dogs have been in, that is what they want them to wear. even when doing good dog stuff. i personally would not spend the money. i have only one i got for free years ago. the talent people usually provide us with those.

they just like the look. stereotype...i know. but even when wearing the therapy dog vest, i get oh, it's a hell dog!

just, don't leave it on unnattended. they do hurt. and for walking, you don't have much control on them. i like the halloween idea!
they are expensive and leather does best if not wet(can get moldy/soft/ect).
the studs can also rust if wet.

Welcome to the real world... unfortunately people do judge our breed for things as stupid as a macho looking collar. We should be doing everything we can not to add fuel to the fire. Why not get a cool bandana for the dog instead... at least it does not instill fear in those ignorant people.

Re: Trying to find cool collar for my rottie

Personally I would not put one on my Rott.

Just like I won't buy/wear anything Harley - cause I ride a Honda :)

It's just not the image I want her to portray. I also love rottie shirts and other rott items, however I will not buy one with a angry/teeth bearing rotty on it. Not a good image.

My two cents.

BTW - Nisha, I would continue to take it off, leather stinks and shrinks if it gets wet too much.

Re: Trying to find cool collar for my rottie

Here is the place I got Roxie's collar...it just has studs but she can do anything you want...I just emailed her with a picture of what I was looking for she sent it to me and it looked great.

Merlyns - Home

Sometimes I wonder if people read the same posts as I do. There are a few people on here that just like to tell people what they are doing wrong...in whos eyes...yours...maybe you are the one doing it wrong. I love this forum and I think it is FULL of information but some people on here just want to belittle people into what they believe is right. I know the breed gets a bad rap but we are all on here reading and informing ourselves so as a group we can change that...you go off on someone and tell them they are not helping the breed is not sending the message that I think this forum is trying to send.

Fillcee85 asked if anyone new WHERE to buy a cool spiked/studded leather collar...not WHAT do you guys think about me getting a cool spiked/studded leather collar. So why not help with what fillcee85 is asking for and not your opinion on why fillcee85 should not get one.

JUST MY 2 CENTS

Re: Trying to find cool collar for my rottie

Brad, nothing wrong with more info than what was requested either. As long as it's put the right way.

I'm not saying that type of collar wrong, I just commented on what I would and would not do and why. That's my opinon, like many others on this topic. It's all valid and on topic, so relax.

While I did not have an answer for her question, I did help another poster asking about getting leather wet.
