| my puppy did not grow in the last 2 months! Hi, my 9 months and half old rottweiler did not take a pound in the last two months. He is 80 pounds and have the same weight till he was almost height months old. I was just wandering if it's normal for a dog at that age to stop growing for two months or he just reach is adult size?. Well, is mother is 90 pounds and his father 125 pounds. He was the smallest male of the litter but a couple of his sisters were smaller than him. Also the breeder told me that he would reach at least 100 pounds, but i have a few doubts about it. Did someone else experience that with is dog? |

| Re: my puppy did not grow in the last 2 months! Very often a puppy's growth will slow down at 9 to 10 months old. Does he have a good appetite? Are you feeding him enough?

| Re: my puppy did not grow in the last 2 months! It takes time for a Rottie to mature and reach their adult weight, and for the sake of their bones you don't want them to grow too fast. Both my rescue rotties came to me at about 1 yr old and 60-65 lbs - trim, but not underweight. Big heads, big feet and skinny rat bodies -- just like gangly teenagers. It took another 12 -18 months for their chests to fill out and for everything to come into proportion. Abby, my bitch, is now a trim 78 lbs; and Calvin, my old male, matured at about 90-95 (though he was a bit heavy). But remember, the value of your dog is not his weight...it's not a contest! And given Rottie's tendencies to joint problems and obesity, bigger is not better. Give your little boy good food, exercise, training and, most of all, time and by the time he's three you'll have a fabulous dog you can be really proud of.

| Re: my puppy did not grow in the last 2 months! Rottweilers, as said above take time to mature .... My boy is kind of in the same boat right now. Ruckus's mom is about 85lbs and his dad is about 120lbs or so. He is now just about 9 months and 92lbs. He was 75lbs at 6 months, 85lbs at 8 months and has really leveled off this past month as you can see not having a significant gain at all. His height as also leveled off, he is 25.5 inches tall. With Males I find they do have a lull in gaining, yet make slow gains. I expect Ruckus will top out about 110-115lbs. He is smaller than his dad was at this age so I don't expect his to be as big as daddy at all. Just feed and exercise him as usual and be patient, males don't mature until 3 or 4 years old .... | Re: my puppy did not grow in the last 2 months! Oskar put on a regular 10lbs a month until he turned 9 months at 90lbs. He did not put much weight on after that. He is 2.5 now and has hit the 100lb mark. |

| Re: my puppy did not grow in the last 2 months! I have a 2 year 4 month old rottie and he stalled in height and weight. i dont believe males completely grow into there bodies till after 3. I keep him at a working weight we walk about 2 miles everyday and he is very agile is able to jump quite high. I just took him to the vet and the vet indicated that he was at the perfect weight which is about 87 lbs. It is more important to keep him healthy with a shiny coat that to be overweight and put to much strain on there joints. And now I have a 3 month old female who is at the active growing age of gaining 3 lbs a week. Good luck and i am sure with in a couple of years you will be amazed and the changes they make. |

| Re: my puppy did not grow in the last 2 months! he eats 2 cups of food every day, he just don't like to eat more than that. I find it weird that my male will be smaller than is mother. People says it's all in the genetics, i don't believe that. And the vet says today that my dog will not hit 90 pounds |

What food are you feeding? Maybe it's time to change food? Start adding some fresh foods as toppers to his food..such as leftover lean meats, canned sardines or mackeral, a tablespoon of yogurt, canned dog food, cottage cheese, etc.Gina

My old guy was 105lbs in his prime, 25 inches tall. He was this weight/height at 13 months old, BUT, his pictures from 12 months to 3 years, stacked, sitting, head shots, are VASTLY different. His collar size went from a 24inch at 12 months to a 26inch at 2 years, and it was a buckle collar so it had nothing to do with the size of his head, it was all his neck. He was also intact, which I believe makes a HUGE difference in how and WHERE a male grows (ie .... out and not UP). Lines are very different in how they mature. Ruckus's dad is now just turned 3 and what a difference from 18 months until now, in just how I described my old guys changes. He is not taller or much heavier but he has most certainly matured out. So, I guess clarifying a male 'growing' until 3 or so should be more accurately described as maturing and filling out. Kristi

| Re: my puppy did not grow in the last 2 months! well, he eats vet food and i try a few quality food but it did not changed at all, he is just not a big eater. Do you think he can get another 20 pounds till he will be 3 years old? |

| Re: my puppy did not grow in the last 2 months! Hard to say if he will gain 20lbs, but chances are he will gain 10lbs and he will look more like a typical male even by a year old. 9 months is often an 'ugly' stage for puppies, especially males, when they have big bodies, little heads ..... Just be patient, really, there is nothing more you can do .... Kristi

The second ingredient is corn. What other foods have you tried on him? Can you get Orijen? It's a Canadian made grainless food that is 70% meat. Very high meat contents for a kibble. Try giving him some extra meat..ground beef or ground chicken. Honestly, 2 cups of food for a 9 month old male pup is really not enough. Gina

| Re: my puppy did not grow in the last 2 months! I can say without a doubt that sam slowed down alot around that age. We took him off puppy food at around 5 months to slow him down. He looked just funky. He is now a lean healthy, happy 118 pounds at 2ish years old. Be patient and if the dog is healthy, it does not matter the size. |
