Cool For Los Angeles Rottie owners

Greetings!

Moondog, I noticed your location but I didn't see any contact for you or I would have sent you a private message. I hope this post is appropriate here.

I am the proud owner of a 4 month old gorgeous Rottie (got her at 8wks).

I am searching for a place to board her in Los Angeles in late June, when I will be out of the country for 10 days.

What I would prefer, is to arrange a "I'll watch yours if you watch mine" type of situation.
I live not too far from LAX, and I have a large yard. When I am at work, Reggae stayes in a 8W x 13L x 6H kennel.

My neighbor could watch her if neccessary (he usually watches my other two mutts, but they are small, 8 yr old dogs who don't require the level of attention that Reggae does).
My neighbor isn't really a "dog person", and I just want to do the right thing for Reggae.

I have searched a bit online for boarding facilities, but the costs are high and I'd rather not leave her hemmed up in a cage for long periods....

Any ideas?

Many thanks to you all for your responses (and many thanks for the astounding amount of info you all provide on this site!) I mostly lurk here without posting, and I always learn so much!

Re: For Los Angeles Rottie owners

Hello mspooley ,
Wish you luck in finding someone to look out for your rotty while your gone. I have no one to recommend in, or around the LBC.. At this age (this is just me) I wouldnt take reggae to a boarding facility i have herd some bad things happenin these places. I would have a trusted family member go stay at my home and take care of him there .....All the best to you and good luck

Hi mspooley, somehow I missed this....sorry! I agree for a 4 month old the best scenario is to have someone come and stay with her at your (and HER) home while you're gone.

Try contacting Elaine Allison of Canine's Best - http://www.caninesbest.com/ She holds classes in West LA, Redondo, Torrance, and Long Beach and has an apprentice program for budding instructors. Perhaps one of them would be available at a reasonable cost to come house sit your little one for you.
