Re: pet insurance

Not sure if I'm allow to post this link, my apologies in advance to the mods if I have broken a rule. Petplan has some pretty reasonable rates in Canada. Not sure what the rates are like in the U.K., but here is a link for you to do a quick quote for an estimate.

InsuranceHotline.com - auto trader online insurance rates auto insurance coverage insurance hotline car insurance quotes insured auto insurance property insurance consumer guide insurance online travel insurance

ETA: for some reason the link doesn't take you right to the U.K. link. Just select pet insurance and go from there, and you will see the link for the U.K.

Re: pet insurance

Hi diane, when I left england 12 months ago my rottie was insured with Lloyds/TSB, they didn't discrimate against rotties, also they will treat same illness for the whole term even if its for the life of the dog eg HD which lottie has, instead of just first consultation, which some if the others do. I paid £164 for 12 months, I think they are much cheaper than petplan.
good luck abbie

Re: pet insurance

i use embrace for my dachshund and i am about to sign up my new rot puppy. this is a good reminder. it is universally reviewed as the best, and I have heard getting your reimbursement from VPI can make a trip to the DMV seem like a breeze. Also, many policies do not cover hip dysplasia related issues while embrace does. just my 2 cents.

Re: pet insurance

A good alternative to pet insurance is keeping a separate savings account for emergency vet costs.

Same reason we have embrace, covers genetic problems, and you can adjust your coverage so meet you needs. We pay around $34 a month for $10K of coverage a year, $500 deductible.

Re: pet insurance

In Australia it doesn't matter what breed of dog you have, pet insurance is the same cost for a rotty as it is for a poodle. The only thing tht varies is the type of cover you select.
