Re: What to expect

Seriously, you saying, "dont be hating on my dog" we arn't hating on your dog, we are probably just smarter then you about the rottweiler breed. I'm a new rottie mom, but i have been researching for a while and i know you arn't suppost to breed out of standard, and most likely the people on this site have a dog thats in the standard size so they arn't "hating" yes i agree you are a TROLL. People trying to help you and you are just being ignorant saying, "(dont say my dog will have health problems because your dog is not as big as you wanted)". Honestly, many of us have the normal breeding standard, and are proud of our dog no matter what. You probably just want to get a bigger dog so you can brag and say mines bigger then yours! We all know that there is a more likely chance your dog will have health problems because over sized rottweilers have a bigger chance to get a heath problem, anyways, good luck with your pup because you might need it.

Personally, i would turn around and run FAST away from this BYB breeder and find a COE breeder. Just because your pup has Champion Bloodlines, yes that is a plus, but it means basically nothing.

Sorry if i offended you, but it's the truth....

Good luck with that pup of yours when you get it, and yes you DO get collars in pet stores.... It's just called looking... We have not seen this pups parents, and uhm... seriously, a collar with a little swagger? It's your job to find that your self, we can give y
ou ADVICE but that's about it. We arn't going to go looking for the perfect collar for you that is your job...

Best of luck,
Dezaree

REALLY? What are the sire's and dam's names? I'd like to verify this in the OFA database.

Re: What to expect

This may be a wild guess, but this sounds like the OP is a young, and un-eduated person. One that is only concerned with size, and not quality or temperament.

He/she is impressed by the VERY thought of a large Rott. So much, that they IGNORE the potential health risks, and financial responsibility of owning an animal that is not the norm.

At two pages and no reply from the OP I say we end this thread now.

Collars for yorkies to clydesdales are available online or in your own town, and this poster doesn't have a dog to fit one yet, nor did he/she post this looking for collars. Just a response (which was given).

Hopefully some knowledge will leak through and we won't see posts later asking for help or health advice because his dog is ABNORMAL.

But, should probs arise of course, please DO ask. The dogs come first. No matter how BIG they are.

Ailee

Re: What to expect

Congrats on your new puppy! I remember when we brought Chico home, it was a great time. I guess all of his collars from Petsmart. They have a great return policy if for some reason you should by the incorrect size. You can find flat collars there as well as choke, chain, or any other you may want. I found a great sturdy flat collar for him. I hope that this will be of some help for you. Congratulations again.

Re: What to expect

Firstly I'd get a collar that fits your puppy now, as he grows you can get a larger collar. Jett is onto her 2nd collar and she is 5 months old (picked it up today).

Collars today are adjustable so you should find that when he if fully grown an XL (Mastif/Rotty) size 'should' fit. With regard to correction collars, prongs etc, you can get them from your dog trainer. They will suggest what is the right collar for your dog.

Is this your first rotty, if so, welcome to the wonderful world of rotts You will need to start training your boy and socializing him asap. These dogs require lots of mental and physical stumulation. I'd enrol him now into the next puppy kindergarten (your local vet may have one beginning when you pick him up).

Yes his parents are out of standard in height so showing him 'may' not be an option, but that is not the be all and end all. As long as you love him and train him he will be a friend for life.

Just be wary of the weight factor....these dogs are prone to hip dysplasia and acl tears and weight does come into it. Your vet will advise you of the weight you should aim for.

Make sure that you give him a good quality puppy food so that he doesn't grow too fast, you dont want to strain his bone development.

Anyway, have fun picking him up and get a collar that will suit him now, like i said earlier, you can get a new one when its required.

Good luck!

Trina

You brought up about all the OFA health clearances. The respectable thing for you to do is name these dogs.
