The wire basket is fine if it fits well.You 'll better muzzle him as asked cause the french gendarmerie(police) is very strict at this point.It is also very important to have your dog's papers with you all the time:Pasport,shots and don't forget the rabies.Don't know if you speak(read)French but there is a very good french Rottweiler-site too.
