Icon5 Rentals in Orange County w/o breed restrictions

In May I will be relocating to Orange County for my job. I am currently having problems finding places that will allow rotties. Does anyone live down there and know where I should look? The areas I'm interested in are Dana Point Laguna and Irvine...

Thanks!

Re: Rentals in Orange County w/o breed restrictions

Ohio is a long way (in more ways than one) from California, but when i was renting with a rottie, I never had a problem, probably because I went with private owners - doubles, single-family houses, etc.. they'd usually want to meet the dog, and that was fine. there was always an extra deposit, but that's understandable.

i know nothing about the california market, but if you can deal with a landlord one-on-one (not some corporate rental office), offer to introduce your dog and to pay a reasonable pet deposit, you may find success.

Hope so! Good luck.

I too don't have knowlege about California, but when I was renting, I too went to private landlords. I knew I wouldn't be able to rent at a complex. The landlord I ended up with had a rottie himself, and just asked to meet Shelby.

We also had to pay pet rent every month, along with a deposit.

I live in Tucson, Arizona and ton's of places don't allow rotties. It took me ages to find something. I did, however, go to craigslist.com and that helped a lot. Just make sure to give yourself plenty of time. It sucks that it's so hard to find a place, I sympathize. Our pup's deserve better than this, they are the sweetest of the sweet.

Re: Rentals in Orange County w/o breed restrictions

I live and grew up in Orange County and while I never have rented with a dog, I know there is a network you can contact to research appropriate complexes. I'm sure you can find a place that will allow your rottie, though it is going to be a bit harder. A lot of places have weight restrictions, if not breed restrictions. You may have better luck in Dana Point and Laguna (though not sure if you are looking at Laguna Beach, Niguel, Hills or Woods--4 different cities). Irvine has a lot of rental communities, probably more so than the other cities, because of the University and just the way the city has been master planned. While incredibly safe (I used to live there, it's a nice city) I always assumed the apartments and townhouses had weight or breed restrictions. But I could be wrong and you may find something nice there. Check out this website (Your Guide to Dog Friendly Parks, Beaches, Restaurants & more in Orange County), it may help you:

Good Luck
