| Petstores damaging to breeders too An interesting local story about a notweiller breeder who I would consider a COE breeder who does all health testing, shows/trains/trials many of her own dogs and is involved in the national breed club. Said breeder walked into a local petstore which sells "purebred puppies" for ridiculous amounts and they were selling "her" breed so she asked the attendant "where did you get these puppies?" The attendant went to get the Dogs in Canada Annual, goes to that breed scetion, pulls up HER kennnell name and says "oh they're really well bred by a local lady, here's her information." God love the this breeder, she pulls out her ID and says "that's me and I am here to take my puppies back"....the store called the RCMP to escort her out. Needless to say, they WEREN'T her puppies BUT were being sold as such and I can only imagine that sometime in the future when these puppies develop health problems she's going to get some phone calls from a few people who were taken for a ride, so to speak. Anyway, it's interesting that we think of petstores as being unethical because of how & when they get their puppies and how the pups are taken care of. There's more to it especially for local breeders who invest a lot of time and effort into producing quality, healthy dogs with good temperaments.

I'm not sure if she has taken any legal action...we're not very litigious up here. |

| She should at least report it to the CKC. The Pedigree Act is strict..and I think the RCMP get's involved in that? What an awful thing to happen. I know the breeder you are talking about...and she is a wonderful breeder...too bad her name is being soiled with puppy mill/BYB dogs.![]() Gina

| Re: Petstores damaging to breeders too I'm not the litigious type either, or I'd be a millionaire from my dog bite 3 years ago, however, out and out lying on a piece of paper regarding the source of dogs being sold is just plain criminal. |

| Re: Petstores damaging to breeders too well there were no papers just the "purebred dogs" with the attendant's word on where the dogs came from. |

| Re: Petstores damaging to breeders too What's amazing to me is that she was escorted out. You can misrepresent what you are selling and possibly damage a persons kennel name but when you are busted on it, the person who caught you gets removed? (Unless there was more going on here no one else knows about yet.) *shakes head* This is awful. I don't know what I'd do if I was her. Well, yeah I do ... and it likely wouldn't go well for me. |
