How to find events

I have been looking for Rottweiler friendly events in Wisconsin and not finding much. Where would I find show listings and is there any such thing as a Rottweiler specialty show or carting events or anything like that in Wisconsin? People are always asking me because they have not had luck finding that info either. Anyone know of any upcomming events in Wisconsin, preferably around Green Bay or at least reasonably close? A few hours drive.

Here is a list of AKC events in WI; your breeder may also be of help.

edit: sorry the link doesn't show all the results; just click your state.

Re: How to find events

Thank you Nishasmom 28 years of having Rottweilers and only one of mine came from a breeder. She was from North Carolina so I thought maybe someone from here or closer by might know of something off the top of their heads. It seems that the numbers of Rotties in Wisconsin is dropping and the quality of Rottweilers in my immediate area is really dropping. I am glad the numbers are down, but I think it is then harder to find events as well. I appreciate the help.

Re: How to find events

visibility and the numbers in Humane Society. Personal observation. I should have said in my area but many people keep telling me the same thing from other areas of Wisconsin. 15 years ago the kennel club in my area had several, now, I am the only person with Rotties. Most of the shows that I have attended have very few Rottie entries as opposed to years ago when there were large entries. I have spoken to several HS in my area that tell me many of them that come in are just PTS due to lack of good applicants. Sadly, it feels that the good homes tend to be backed off now due to BSL and fear of losing their dogs or home owners insurance.

Re: How to find events

Inga- I notice it here too. About 5-7 years ago it seemed like every other dog was a rottie. Now it's a pit. I think many of these idiots get the "dog of the year" and then get rid of them a year or two later.

Yes, I think this is more accurate and then the numbers simply declining. There is no shortage of ads for Rottie BYB puppies and the rescues are still full beyond capacity.

PTS = Put To Sleep

Took me a while to figure that one out myself ;)

Re: How to find events

I thought I was the only one with a Rottie in my area but in the past 2-3 months, I have seen 3 others but there are definitely many more pits around here. I hope that they are rescues since the shelters are full of pits.

Re: How to find events

I have 34 shelters that are real close to me. Within 45 minutes. Anyway, there used to be a lot of Rottweilers that were showing up there as well. Now, yes, the occassional few come in, but not nearly like they used to. Yes, it is now mostly Pit bulls. As sorry as I feel for the good Pit bull owners I have to admit that I am selfishly happy it takes the slightest bit of bad press away from the Rottweilers. I have also noticed a shift in some peoples attitude toward Rotties in my area as well. I hear a lot more positive comments about the breed now then I did 10-15 years age. That was the worst for the breed. I am working on getting my boys Therapy certified right now. Many people are able to feel comfortable around a dog that is Therapy certified no matter the breed. Every little bit counts.

Re: How to find events

I am a rott/lab owner of a wonderful puppy from the shawano humane society. He is a mix and looks all rott. I would like to certify him at one year, as my first rott was a therapy dog, and yes, you are right, it seems to calm and reassure people. Luckily, this puppy is an old soul and therapy will suit him. maybe we can keep in touch, or find an event to meet at in NE WI.

Re: How to find events

I found a performance club in Fond Du Lac, which I think is reasonably near you. Even if you don't want to participate with that club, they'd be a good source of local info.

Rottweiler Breed Clubs

I'm across the river from Wisconsin and my local vet is looking forward to me picking up my pup because she never sees Rotties at her practice. It's good that she's open minded, but a bummer that I don't have a local vet who has experience with the breed.
