What's a good price to pay

I've been shopping around and it seems the prices have skyrocketed on the Rotti pups . I would adopt one but I have a 4yr old toddler at home and most that are available are 1yr and older or mixed and I'm looking for a pup.

Any suggestions guys ? I've been to petfinder etc.

Re: What's a good price to pay

the breeder I know sells show potential pups at $1,200 while the pet-home pups sell anywhere from $850 - $1,000. This is just the breeder that I know. It could differ elsewhere.

Re: What's a good price to pay

I've had responses that range from $800 - $3,000.00. To me, $3,000.00 seems quite high for a pup as they can't guarantee how they will turn out. The ones on the low end have turned out to be unproven and likely not health tested. Or only their hips have been OFA'd. Hubby and I came to an agreement of a maximum amount we'd pay for what we want. We'll look and inquire until we find the right breeder with the right price. I think that's about all you can do.

Re: What's a good price to pay

When I bought my rottie that i had I got him out of the news paper and I know a lot of people say don't buy from the ads in the paper but I tell you i lucked up when i got mine cause he was a great dog I mean i really got a good quality pup. I was able to see the mother & father all the paper work on both parents and grand parents. The guy was retired from the military and had got my dog mother in germany when she was a pup. But if you just looking for a good quality pet and not for showing then i would check out the paper and what i did was i called every ad that was in the paper for rotties and i went to visit the ones That i chose to visit. I wanted to see parents, where the dogs where kept, all paper work and if the people didn't know what they were talking about over the phone i didn't even waste my time going.

Find a reputable breeder and if you have to, save your money until you can afford the good pup. NEVER settle on a pup. Often times you will not be happy with the one you settled for. The key is the breeder not the price

Please don't advise others to buy from the newspaper. Although I'm sure your dog is lovely, I doubt any health certs were done? Were the sire and dam shown? Titled? Anything? Even if you want just a pet, there are certain things to look for. What if the puppy from the newspaper drops dead before age 1 due to a heart condition? But because the heart wasn't tested, you won't know. I would never buy out of the paper.

There are far more reputable places to get a dog.

Re: What's a good price to pay

I would also avoid petfinder if you are looking for a pupppy. Please do some research here on what steps to take when looking for a pup and suggestions on how to find a COE breeder.
Good Luck.

Re: What's a good price to pay

Our currency is pretty much on par now and when i was looking the costs were between $1,000 and $1,200 from COE breeders. I think that's the standard price these.

Good luck in your search!

Re: What's a good price to pay

I would expect to pay at least $1000 or more for a quality pet. You are purchasing a new member of your family. I know you are looking for a puppy, but why not rescue? they get litters as well as young dogs. as far as kids, the older the pup , the more predictable the temperment. (I know not all of the time, but a 8week pup may also be a crap shoot)

Re: What's a good price to pay

Between 2 and 4 thousand dollars will get you a really well breed and documented rotti pup. That is of course if the breeder deems you fit to own one, etc. Otherwise I might suggest something from the toy group.

Re: What's a good price to pay

I've called numerous rescues/shelters so far , most have Rotti mixes , but aren't sure what the mixes are .

$1000 for CASH , lol that is so ironic ^^^^^

I think 5-800 should be a fair price to pay , guess I'll keep looking

Re: What's a good price to pay

If you are looking at a pup from quality parents (whether they are titled/the quality of the bitch/quality of stud dog/full health certs) you can easily expect to pay $1000-2000 for a puppy. I know one US breeder that charges $2200/ pup and another that charges $2000/pup.

I would expect however that from untitled parents even if fully health cleared that the price would be substantially less....

Another factor (at least for ME) is that I do not own my own stud dog, each of my litters have been with an "outside" male, and when you are factoring in stud fees that all gets included in price too.

When I hear of puppies selling for $200-300 THAT sets off alarm bells...
