| Rescuing another dog A neighbor of mine has a female Shiba Inu, she’s three years old and he is moving to another county and cannot take her with him. She’s very well trained she’s been in training with a trainer for almost all her life. He asked me if I would like to adopt her before he goes to the shelter and I would love to, but wanted to ask you guys if it would be a bad idea. Our dogs get along fine when they play in the yard I have an 8 month old male Rottweiler. My dog just recently got enrolled in obedience training and I am working very hard with him. Has anyone have/had a shiba inu with a Rottweiler? I really don’t want to see this dog going to a shelter. |

| It could work if the dog is mature and has training? The breeder of the Shiba Inu should be notified before the dog is taken to a shelter as well as Shiba Inu Rescue. I would never recommend another young dog or a dog the same age to be adopted...but with a dog that is 3 and well trained..it could work? The trained dog could be a good influence on your dog. If you keep up with the training on your dog...and keep up with training on the Shiba?? You also must think of cost...twice as much on food, vet bills...including HW and flea prevention, etc. Gina

| Re: Rescuing another dog The other option for this dog is to contact local rescue organizations and see if they could rehome her.....There might be a Shiba Inu loving family out there just waiting for her to enter their lives...

| Re: Rescuing another dog Shiba Rescue - East Coast Contact: Gibbs Burch 11816 Pittson Rd. Wheaton, MD 20906 (301)942-3765 (evenings after 6pm) E-Mail: gibbs@mindless.com Just did a google and found this one. I'm sure there are more out there. The owners can call them up and check it out. I've successfully integrated other rottweilers into our family again and again. It can be done. But as brunie'smom and jakesfostermom mentioned it does take extra time, money, and energy to keep up the exercise, training, health, nutrition, etc. Going from a single dog home to a two dog (or more) doesn't just double the trouble, it exponentially changes the whole shebang! In my experience, instead of the well trained dog being a great role model for the newcomer, it usually turns out that it's the opposite. Just like with kids, they know when your energy and attention is stretched. The well mannered one slacks off and acts up and the poor mannered one eggs them on. It means you have to really amp up the training with them both to maintain your original level of good manners in them. Miki Last edited by mikimm; 02-28-2008 at 04:37 PM. Reason: spelling |

| Re: Rescuing another dog Quote:
I agree, as I said before, adding another dog makes things multitudes more complicated than they were with just one. Shiba Inu dogs are similar to Rottweilers in that they can be independent and challenging in temperament. Adding another dog like this would probably be a big mistake and not be fair to either one of them...or to your household. |

| Re: Rescuing another dog Yes this is what i thought it was a bad idea, the shiba in very well trained it can be trusted with out a leash as I have read most shiba's will run. I guess i will contact the rescue and let them see if they can rehome her. I know I brought this up 10 days ago but I love the way they play with eachother I guess ill have to wait a few more years. thanks for all you feedback |
