What is the best Lead

I have a 7 month old, who came to me at 17 weeks, as he was badly treated and locked in a shed, I've never had any experience with rottweilers before. He is good as gold and a joy to owe. But as he is getting older, he is also getting stronger and through he doesn't pull much on his lead, he does pull when he sees someone he recognises and I am now starting to have trouble holding him back. Would anyone recommend a lead, I'm not sure whether to get one that goes round his nose or across his chest, any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

Rather than recommend a leash, I would recommend getting him into training.

Correction collars, haltis, and such are merely training tools. It would serve you better to learn how to communicate properly with him, and learn how to teach him what you expect of him. A correction does no good if the dog hasn't been trained, and doesn't know exactly what you expect of him. Learning how to give a proper correction, and when to give it is paramount in humane treatment.

Improper corrections lead to nagging (mommy mommy mommy mommy mommy...), and to be fair and just with your boy, learning how to manage him will only make your relationship better.

I would not recommend you use a harness as I assume you meant by across his chest, that wil allow him to pull you around even easier, maybe in the future when he's been trained not to pull.

after that it is either some sort of head collar or a check/prong collar and this should depend mainly on your preference although the preference of your trainer may also be an influence.

Get him into a traiing class and see what they recommend for him

I agree with everyone proper training is a must because this breed grows to be very big and powerful. Once you build a solid foundation with the training. I would recommend the gentle leader.. I used it when Bebe was a puppy it really helped on our walks. Now she doesnt pull or anything.

I agree that a halti or gentle leader would help. I swear by the gentle leader because it works great for training on a leash and with behavior problems like jumping up, etc. It is important that you attend training and learn how to properly use any devices that you choose or you may be using it incorrectly and cause it to be ineffective.

I thought I would let you know - I have brought a Canny Collar lead after seeking advice and it's the best thing I have ever brought - he learned within a day not to pull with this, when out and he see someone he knows - he now doesn't pull to get the them, as he knows he can't. I would recommend it to anyone.

While this is a good management tool until training is solid, it's important for you to understand that he didn't LEARN anything! The reason that collar works is simply physics, and nothing more. He doesn't pull because he CAN'T, not because he had a light bulb moment. When you take that collar off, he's going to be the same as he was before you put it on.

If you want a reliable dog (and I can't imagine why you wouldn't), then training classes are a MUST, not an option.
