are rottweilers known to carry things?

When I would come home, Chivas would excitely grab one of her toys and run around with it, sometimes bringing it to me. Hannah does pretty much the same thing, Roxie never picked up anything.

My last rottie girl,Therapy dog, would get a reward after a hard day. We would stop at Wendy's for a cheesburger no bun and a water. The person at the window, gave Sheena her bag which she proudly held then carried out of the car. She waited until we were inside then she would place the bag at my feet to be opened and served. She also carried the handle of her leash so she could walk herself. This was a one in a million rottweiler. She once even carried a treat to the mailman.

Yup. My rottie loved to carry things too. She'd take a bone or one of her stuffies on our walks all the time.

about 7yrs ago, my rott would only eat food that was in her dish. One day we were out walking during lunch. I was a mile and a half away from my office and met a girl on the other side of the river. She offered me an uneaten mcdonalds hamburger. I didn't want it so I said give it to the dog. Maggie took it and carried to all the way back to my office. When we got there she put it in her dish and stared at me. I soon realized she was waiting for me to say OK. She was good dog.

Oh I love the burger storys! I'll have to try it, gradually. I'm afraid mine would eat, bag and all. Manners everywhere else, of course. I think I'd have to train them to wait, like I do with dinner. A juicy hamburger is NOT the same circumstance as me holding their dish before serving.

I've some great ideas on how to keep Jax from carrying his leash now. Thanks. My only problem now is how to teach him not to turn the TV on and off or teach him to do it on command any ideas????

Yes, my rottie is almost 7 months. I have found that if I carry something like a stick, it discourages him from picking up EVERYTHING! Our dogs seem to be similar in age, do you find that sometimes your rottie may act out. I am not sure how to explain it. He has attended obedience class, so he knows how to behave. For example, last night he decided to bark while attempting to climb on the couch. Two things he know that he is not allowed to do. We commanded off to him. My husband took him out, thinking that maybe he had to go potty. I know I am rambling, how do we get him to be not so... I don't want to say aggressive. But busy?

hi i think iam very lucky as boomer is very laid back and will do as hes told pretty much everytime
am waiting for him to start acting out but to be honest i think hes too lazy lol
ive not had a male before and i was waiting for dominance to appear with his hormones but nothing so far
ive also got a 7yr cross rotti fremale my experience ChicoD is just keep what you are doing he is probably at 7m wants to see how far he can get
boomer still likes to sleep in the day time does your dog ChicoD?
i walk boomer 1 hour in morning 20 mins in afternoon seems to keep him quiet in the house if he does get a mad half hour i just get all his toys out and play with him or play find the treat under two cups
mental tiredness lol after that he wants to lay down
saying all this i do remember when boomer was about 4m he use to bark at me when i as eating i just ignored him he soon stopped

Hi. My Casar would run out to the car when I got home from work or grocery shopping and insisted on carrying something - my purse or a small bag. I would guess it's their need/want to work ? Stump wagging and wagging !

boomer has now started carring my son packed lunch to school it seems that people think hes more approachable when he does this

Chico D. in my experience which is not huge. Males like to test the waters of dominance. Rots are very smart. Dont let them see your weakness. Also stay firm with obedience. The barking is just his way of saying I am more dominant than you. If he gets on the couch after you have corrected him, just pull him off and he will learn. My dog used to get on the bed and growl at me. I whipped him off the bed after the first few times and now he just looks at me from the foot of the bed and barks. But he does not dare get on the bed. My other Rot used to cuddle with me on the pillow after my husband went to work, but he did not have dominance issues. This little, or very large guy I should say, does. Hope that helps!

Of course yours is a puppy mine is over a year. Keep up with the obedience, all this should change. I dont consider that aggression, yet. Careful the words you choose There is enough stereotyping and he is only 7 mos. Try high drive, sharp or normal rottweiler puppy behavior that will change with lots of obedience classes and love. LOL
