Remember the times without a furkid???

I just was sitting on the floor with my furkids (Jordan germ/shep mutt, Cindy and Tasha rotties) and was thinking about the time when I didn't have them. I got Jordan first, three years ago, a puppy as small as it can be, eaten up by fleas and afraid of his own shadow, already abused by his previous owner. Jordan turned out to be the most intelligent dog I ever met. He is just a sweetie. He knows when I am sad, protected me from a (now ex) husband. My ex never liked Jordan, wanted a big and bad dog. A ROTTWEILER, was his dream, a tough dog - a status symbol to show what a big and bad guy he was. So I got Cindy for us, two years ago, unfortunatley for him, the sweetest dog you can imagine. Instead of being big and bad, Cindy stayed rather small and instead of being mean she lickes everybody to death. So my ex lost interest very quick in her. good for her!!!! Every attempt from him to toughen her up was useless, she just smiled and licked his hand. The only thing I kept of all the things we had, when we separated, were the two dogs. So I believe I got the best of it. After my separation I didn't go home to a cold and lonely apartment - I came home to true love. Tail wagging -smiling faces. A reason to come home (well, they have to go outside) and a reason to get up in the morning (try to sleep when Cindy wants her food in the morning ;) ;). It was tough but we three made it through. I had to get a better job just to support us three and at the new job I met my current boyfriend. I believe a lot of things happen and they all happen for a reason. I can't even imagine coming home at night and don't get greeted like a queen. The first time I read something in this forum, when I needed some help with Cindy's potty training, was about this guy writing that he isn't alone a second and his rottie is even there in his most private moments and breathing in his face while he is taking care of some business. :) And I thought, yeah right, like the dog will go everywhere he goes. Well, Cindy proved him right, I don't have a moment to myself. She is my lovely shadow and there isn't a place she doesn't go with me. :) :) :) I am totaly in love with this breed and amazed how wrong the image of them is. They are a great breed, but I believe we shouldn't forget that it doesn't need to be a rottie to be your best friend. Jordan isn't a rottie and just a great dog, companion, protector. We all love our dogs and love for what they stand for. The unconditional love you can see in their eyes every day. The little things you know make them happy just by looking in their face. The different character they show and how different every dog is and how special that makes them. I hope I can give all this love I received to my rescue Tasha, which is a lot of work but well worth it. She is in love with my girlfriends 'Bear' and we might have to give in to this 'love-connection' and let them live together, since Cindy and her are not getting along too good. We'll see...I just wanted to announce in this long post my appreciation to this furkids and remind everybody that we are blessed to have the companions we have. :) :) :)

Yeah! I remember too. Go to work, get the kid to school, then depending on the day of the week, dance, gymnastics, soccor, piano, swimming, then home dinner, homework, bed. We were hardly home. Always on the run. Then tragedy struck. An intruder broke into the third floor of my home and assaulted my then 14 year old daughter. I was full of rage and vengence. I got a dog and a gun. The gun is locked up in a safe and has never even been fired. The dog, which is now dogs (we have 3), are a big part of our lives. We spend lots more time at home, work our schedules so that puppies are not alone, soccor has been replaced with dog training and playing. They have enriched our lives no end. Without them we would probably be very impatient, stressed out people. They force us to slow down and in return give so much love. Oh yes, my rottie (Cromwell) follows me around. He will give it a few minutes and if I take too long he comes looking for me, even in the bathroom. He will move the shower curtain to make sure I am there, then lay down right by the tub. I could never imagine willingly returning to my life without them.
