Eye color????

Hi everyone, been awhile since I've been her - way too much going on these days!!! I have a question about eye color...I know the breed standard is dark eyes, but Ruckess has VERY light colored eyes. Is there a chance that they will darken as she gets older? She just turned 4 mo old last week, and although we get many compliments on her eyes, I would love for them to darken up.

Thanks,

Kelly

Re: Eye color????

They could darken, but I wouldn't count on it. I had a bitch with light eyes whose eyes darkened as she grew up. They didn't darken to black but more a medium brown.

Re: Eye color????

No chance, sorry. What you have at 4 months is pretty much what you've got.

Re: Eye color????

We’ve fostered a couple of dogs with light eyes.

If their eyes darkened as the dog got older, their eyes as puppies must have been very very light.

We privately adopted our pet store girl when Tula was about 5-6 mo old. Her eyes then (and still are) her best Rottie feature. They're dark. They were dark then and they still are.

Our other rescue girl, Moxie, we also adopted when she was about the same age (tho at a different time). Her eyes are lighter than her sister's and they never darkened.

Based on my experience, what you see with Ruckess' eyes are what they'll be.

Re: Eye color????

thanks everyone. We get A LOT of compliments on them, and they are very pretty. I tried to get a picture of them to show, but none of the pics really show hwo light they are. Doesn't really matter - despite all of the "ruckess" she causes, we still love her to pieces. Now, Raider...well I think he could live without her..at least his ears could - she will not leave him alone. Poor guy!!!
