When to spay my puppy

I just recently bought a new female rott, and I was just curious as to when the best time is to spay her. I have read information on here about neutering, but i haven't found much on spaying a young puppy. If anyone could give me some information that would be awesome. Thanks!!!

Glad that you plan on being a responsible rott owner and plan to have your pup spayed.

Some vet's push spaying before the first heat...usually around 6 months of age.
If you do a search on "osteocarcinoma study" you will see that some recommend to spay later, after one or two heats or till the pup is about 18 months of age. If you can contain her safely while she is in heat and make sure there are no dogs around that will try to breed her....and be prepared of cleaning up a bit of a mess for 3-4 weeks...then wait.
If you do not think you can handle a bitch in heat, then have her spayed at 6 months.

What does your breeder say? What age does it say in your contract that your pup must be spayed?

My vet recommends spaying at 6 months.

My vet recommended spaying her at around 18 months so that she grows completely. Her second heat will be in July, so I'am considering to spay her some time after that.

This is just from my personal experience, but I have found that a bitch tends to gain less weight later on if she goes through at least one heat. Lucky for me, there are no unnutered males anywhere near me. But I plan to keep a very close watch on her when the time comes.

We used "Depends" for when our rottie was in heat. They work great and it was nice because she could roam our house just like always without making a mess. And it was easy to clean her up. We tried diapers but they would fall right off of her...the Depends are like underwear and there were no tabs and the sides were stretchy so it didn't fall off of her.
