| Introducing 8 month Female to 15 month Male...Suggestions? As my title says, I have a 15 month old male. I have always been a 2-dog household until as recently as a few weeks ago. I was just given the opportunity of acquiring an 8-month old female, that even though it is so very soon and even though our hearts ache, I do not want to miss the opportunity of bringing into our home. She is absolutely adorable! Wonderful disposition and personality! I feel she will be a perfect fit. I have never really had to introduce to juvenile rotties. My last introduction was a 5 month old female to a 9 year old male and it went well...then we lost Dakota. We got a puppy to keep Cheyenne company and that introduction went very well too. She tolerated him being a puppy, and he knew when to leave her alone. Then a little more than 2 weeks ago we lost our Cheyenne. Gunnar is devastated and moping around the house....he cries...and looks for her, inside and out and does not eat as much as he used to sometime skipping meals. I am hoping that his broken heart will make him more eager to accept another female into our home and I also hope it will help him. The puppy has been brought up around other dogs, so she is well socialized (as an 8-month old can be). I am sure someone here has been in a similar situation and I am looking for suggestions and a little guidance as to how I should approach this to make it a smooth entrance for all involved! Thanks everyone! |

| Re: Introducing 8 month Female to 15 month Male...Suggestions? The usual advice with older dogs is to introduce them on neutral ground. I'd do the same here. Have someone meet you with the new girl at the park and walk them around. Being of different sexes, they are more likely to get along, as you've already seen with other pairs. You are going to have your hands full with two juvenile dogs. They are both still puppies, and will require a lot of your time individually. If you haven't already read all those threads about what to do with two puppies in the same house, might as well start now!
