| What kind of leash and collar do you use? We have gone through at least 6 leashes in 8 months- from leather, nylon and now chain. What do you all use? I now just ordered a leather leash thats for police k9s- it is 6 feet but can be doubled to 3 and has a floating D ring, two toggles. Collars- we have done fabric, prong, choker, breakaway, and martingdale. Which do you use? Thanks all in advance... |

| Re: What kind of leash and collar do you use? leashes...I use a 6ft leather. I had a nylon...but it was getting rough on my hands. the leather is softer... collars? depends on you and the dog. Had a flat buckle but didn't like it. Trainer put a gentle leader on him...worked for a while, then when he hit around 7 months I felt I needed something that allowed me to control him better so I got a choke, then a prong. I was NOT the first person to put either of these collars on my dog. My trainer showed me the choke, how to put it on, fit it, and use it, and was also the first person to put a prong on him, then showed me how to use it. My sis-in-law is a vet and says she sees all kinds of injuries from prong collars (she's against them), but I like using the prong...however, it has to be fit properly so talk to your trainer. Good luck!! |

| Re: What kind of leash and collar do you use? Arwen is (kinda) well mannered, doesn't pull alot (anymore) and doesn't chew on her leash (much, lol). We use a leather leash most of the time with a DurraRuff collar from Dr's Foster and Smith. http://www.drsfostersmith.com/Produc...45&N=2001+2030 It is guaranteed not to break and we have used them since the day we brought her home (almost 2 years!! ). They are easy on and off (which is why we got them, we didn't use to have a fenced yard and put it on and off 100 times a day to do potty breaks). We also have a matching buckle collar and leash that is pink leather trimmed in fur and bows (for special occasions). |

| Re: What kind of leash and collar do you use? 2 6ft nylon leash (one good one for walking down the road with another handle near the clamp of the leash, while the 2nd one is more for him running around and for me to catch him when he's doesn't want to listen) with a prong that was properly fitted around his neck. now i have another 20ft nylon leash as well for training and recall commands

| Re: What kind of leash and collar do you use? What about those short 'handle' leashes- the one for when you are walking in streets or crowded areas? We were also thinking about getting that- it's about a foot in length; it's pretty much just a handle. Also for collars we were looking at the again the one used for police dogs; it's thick leather but lined with fleece or some type of soft material and has a small area on the back of the collar where it's also a makeshift handle to grab the rottie quickly. Sebastian is a very loveable rottie- we are not outfitting to make him look intimidating in case any are wondering why I keep looking at police K9 products. It's just that I am looking for durability at this point- I am hoping his loveable puppy face takes the edge off all the leather |

| Re: What kind of leash and collar do you use? Hmmm...our leash inventory consists of at least four 6 foot leashes of various widths (1/2 inch to 1 inch thick), at least half dozen 4 foot leashes (I think 3/4 to 1 inch think), and a few 2 foot leashes. All are leather, I think it's a 50/50 mix of braided and plain leather. Our collar inventory consists of 5 prong collars, several leather choke collars of various lengths (for obedience trials), buckle collars (leather, for their ID tags), and several nylon martingale collars. Main leash of choice is the 6 or 4 footer for all of the dogs unless walking traffic, then I use the 2 foot braided leash. For collars, it depends on the dog. The pup is on a buckle collar only. The older dogs usually on prongs, chokers or martingale collars when walked or in training, depends on the level we're at... Confusing, ain't it?? You should see peoples reactions when they see all of the leashes and collars hanging up - they wonder how many dogs we have!! |

As for the collar...I used a really thick leather collar...I've seen the ones with the handle and they look great as well... I also had one of those short leather leashes that were just a long handle...didn't like them at all. |

| Re: What kind of leash and collar do you use? I do have a 2ft "crowd controll" leash. It was purchased for an overhyper puppy to keep her closer to me while sitting in class waiting for the next activity. It is also great for the vets, I usually have it and the 6ft both attached so I can use the one that I need. |

| Re: What kind of leash and collar do you use? Thanks everyone- this is great info. I think we are going to go ahead and get that crowd control leash for the vet visits as well; beats wrapping up a 6 foot leash. I can't wait to get the leather K9 leash in the mail- hopefully this week. As far as the collar goes- do you believe my 9 month old is now up to a 24" collar? Should I be scared at this size of this boy? He is all muscle, god bless. 9 months and at 110 lbs, 24" height, lean and loveable. |

| Re: What kind of leash and collar do you use? I use 6 or 8 foot leather leash made by an Amish harness leather shop. My rott doesn't wear a collar while inside...he's tattooed and microchipped. For an outside collar, it's usually a prong. Sometimes I attach his leash to an inexpensive adjustable vinyl harness (available at most big petstores) when we are running outside, but he still has a prong on in case I need to switch.

| Re: What kind of leash and collar do you use? Leash inventory: 1-2' leather leash, 1-2' nylon braided leash, 1-4' leather, 1-4' nylon leash, 1-6' leather leash (most used). Collar inventory: fur saver, prong, flat buckle nylon, leather(thin), two show leads, choke(rarely used), martingale. Can you believe I only have one dog? Certain collars work in certain situations. I do have extra so if anyone needs a collar let me know.

| Re: What kind of leash and collar do you use? We use a standard nylon collar and a 16' retractable leash. We also have a standard 5' nylon leash as well. My rottie will be 3 in April and is in the 130# range. We've had him since he was 12 weeks old and weighed 23#. We spent tons of time training him and he is extremely obedient. Pulling is a non-issue, thus we have no issues with the retractable. In fact, we have the original retractable we purchased when we first got Boulder 2 1/2 years ago. It sure is nice on those cold or bad weather nights to just let him slip out the door on the retractable and not have to worry about going out ourselves! |

| Re: What kind of leash and collar do you use? For training and in stores I use Prong, for every day Gypsy has a flat pink(lol) soft nylon collar and a pink soft nylon leash to match, I had the leather leash and she chewed it(grrr) but it was the best leash I had, so I have to buy a new one

| Re: What kind of leash and collar do you use? I use a 6', 1/2" wide leather leash. I have small hands so I liked the narrower one. The leather, once it gets a little "seasoned" (rubbing shaving cream all over it really helps soften it up), is a lot easier on my hands. Molly's not a puller anymore, but in the beginning that was really important! If we are just out for a stroll, I use a wide leather collar with the sheepskin on the inner part, for training, I use a prong. I do switch those collars out from time to time because I've found she gets "collar smart" and thinks she can get away with a little bit of nonsense when she's been on the leather collar only for a while. I've also used a martingale (nylon) which I also like -- used it mostly when we were making the transition to the prong. |
