Pet insurance Went to the pet store today and on my way out saw a sign advertising pet insurance to help cover cost of vet bills...do any of you have this? Know anything about this? Is it worth checking out?

Re: Pet insurance We researched it for our dogs...to us it wasn't worth it. You pay and pay every month and alot of the problems end up not being covered...plus, you have to prove a problem wasnt caused by a supposed pre-existing condition. PLUS, since rotties are prone to certain problems, you pay alot more... We have a credit card specifically for emergencies - keep it in an envelope taped to the inside of the dog record file box... Easier to have a separate account for vet care or a card set aside...at least for us.

Re: Pet insurance Thanks. Like most insurance; what it could really help with it doesn't cover and what it covers you can handle on your own. I hate insurance companies. They seem to dictate to much of the how and why we do things. The theory of pet insurance seems like such a good idea...oh, well!

Re: Pet insurance when we purchased our dog zoey and registered her with AKC, they offered us a sixty day trial of their pet insurance. I am sure if you go to their website they will have some info about it. it wasn't crazy expensive, i think like 230 a year? it actually covered a lot of things that i didn't think they would. might be worth at least checking into different companies and seeing what they offer/cover.

Re: Pet insurance I have Bailey insured and it costs me around £14.00 per month, some companies wanted 3x that amount so the best thing to do is shop around.I learnt a valuable lesson i had no insurance on my cat and he was hit by a car and i ended up with a £1500 vet bill which wasnt easy to find.

| Re: Pet insurance I work for home Depot and they offer it to thier employees. I pay $12.00 a check. While I will not use it for the most part I want to have it in case of an accident. It does include a separate cancer policy. I've had to put a dog down because I could not afford surgery for a repairable injury. I don't want to ever have to go through that again.

Re: Pet insurance Thanks Kerri, JemarsSerena; I'll look into this a little closer before I give the idea up. When my late great Boss got cancer, I sold the truck to pay the vet bills. I don't regret that; he was worth every truck that ever rolled out of Detroit, but I'd hate to think what might have happened if....well, anyway; thanks again; I'm going to look into this insurance thing, if I can find something that offers decent coverage (and a cancer policy) for ~2-300 a year, I think I'll go in...of course, with insurance, I guess you have to watch the fine print!

Re: Pet insurance We got VPI full coverage which runs us $330 a year. It has more than paid for itself.
