| Re: What is a good ROTTWEILER owner in your eyes? Be a wise investor. Keep putting patience, love, trust and fairness into the the breed you believe in. Use your gut feelings, nurture your investment daily and when it matures, you will reap the wonderful rewards of having a rottie. |

| Re: What is a good ROTTWEILER owner in your eyes? Someone who takes the time to properly educate themselves about the breed and it's traits and characteristics, then takes that knowledge and uses it to better the quality of their ownership of their dog. Someone who seeks out a good trainer and LISTENS to what that trainer has to say and gives their dog the gift of good training. Someone who properly socializes their Rottweiler with plenty of other animals and people. Someone who then takes that training and socialization and turns the dog into the kind of Rottweiler that NO ONE should fear to have around them; a well behaved canine citizen who is loved and a pleasure to be around. Someone who will promise to keep their dog healthy and keep yearly vet appointments to ensure that health. Someone who will keep an eye on good nutrition and give their dog only good food conducive to a good diet. Someone who will regularly exercise their dog with long walks and fun romps in the back yard or in a field or woods. Someone who loves their dog enough to stick by them just like the dog will do for it's master to the very end. Someone who has the compassion and strength to stand by their loyal friend until it's time to go to the Bridge; someone who will give their beloved friend the dignity of a peaceful passing when that time comes. That, to me, is a good owner.

| Re: What is a good ROTTWEILER owner in your eyes? In my eyes, a good pet owner is someone who is..... Benevolent and compassionate with a lesser species. Firm but fair in their actions (decisive). Responsible both physically and financially regarding the needs and welfare of an animal. Patient and consistent. Realizing that an animal is not "stupid" if it doesn't understand something right way. It just needs more time to learn. Willing to allow an animal to become a part of their family. Not brandishing it to the backyard in loneliness, on a chain or in a kennel, and only seeing it during feeding time. And finally, a good owner is a good companion. Funny how we think of it as the other way around. But if we strive to be good companions to our dogs, our dogs will in turn become GREAT companions for us. Do things together ALWAYS, and remember to have fun and let your dog be a dog! Our dog's lives are much too short as it is.... Don't take it for granted. |

| Re: What is a good ROTTWEILER owner in your eyes? ANY good pet owner puts their ego on the back burner and realizes that they don't know everything and can always learn more. Learn about dogs, keep up with current research about training and vet care and feeding, be a critical thinker, don't assume that because some guy on TV says something's true that it is, do your own homework, keep an open mind and be self aware enough to recognize when your own preconceptions and ego are getting in the way of doing the right thing. Take pet ownership seriously, be aware that you have chosen to take on the responsibility for the LIFE of another living creature and as such you must treat it properly: feed it properly, ensure it has adequate medical care and proper training, spend enough time with it, etc. ALL dogs need obedience training, ALL dogs need socialization, and dogs like Rottweilers need it more than some others. Dogs take time, money, and involved and active effort, and you don't get to shirk any of those, especially not with a Rottweiler, if you can't afford a dog (meaning time, vet expenses, decent food, etc.), then just don't get a dog, a dog is not a necessity of life, if you can't afford to provide a dog with a decent life, then you can't afford a dog. In short, if you're not prepared to be a good dog owner, don't own a dog.

| Re: What is a good ROTTWEILER owner in your eyes? Obviously an owner who trains their dog is the key .. but I think some people are just born to be Rottweiler owners... I mean.. anybody can be a good toy breed owner.. but to be a Rottie owner you just needa be 'that kinda person' |

TR Young, SonnyRott and spidey make very good points. I don't own a Rottie, because I prefer a different kind of look and personality in my dogs. ( a personal preference, not a value judgement ) |
