Re: What is a good ROTTWEILER owner in your eyes? A person that puts responsible rottweiler ownership above and beyond anything else, next the dogs well being and quality of life. A person that is always willing to learn with an open mind, and hone their skills and always be on the look out to improve. Lastly, to have a sense of humor and be able to laugh and have a good time.

Re: What is a good ROTTWEILER owner in your eyes? A person that is strong willed and has determination/fortitude. There are times when training or situtations arise that will take a down turn, or throw you for a loop, test your strength of character. You have to be willing to stick with it for the long haul, and be strong enough to know you may need to try something new or put in more time, energy, effort. You have to have thick skin. There are more people out there that are ignorant of the breed that you have chosen, it can be vets, land lords, neighbors, friends and even family. You have to be able to not take it personally and quite often rationally explain or demonstrate that the myths about the Rottweiler are just that, myths. You have to be as inquisitive as your dog. They will push the limitis of discovery and as the owner/companion you need to do the same. It can be training methods, nutrition, kennels, boarding, you name it. If you are not willing to learn or research things, then you should not own a pet at all. Be proactive not reactive. Try not to wait for a situation to arise or an ailment to work itself out. If your dog is acting odd or limping, take it to the vet or at least call them. Don't expect your dog to be perfect in a vets office if you only take the dog in when it's sick. Instead take it in regularly just to weigh it and get the dog familiar with the surroundings. Someone that is mature. You have to realise that your life will change. You have to head home after work and take care of the dog, you can't stay out all night and if you do, don't be surprised or angry if the dog has relieved itself or destroyed some of your things. You have to treat this as a life decision and understand that regardless of weather, how you're feeling, what is going on at work, with family, friends or a significant other, you have to take care of this dog. The dog is not and cannot be a burden to you, not now, not ever. YOU made the decision to get this life that depends on you for everything and will depend on you for many, many years to come. You owe it to the dog and yourself to provide it the best life that you can.

Re: What is a good ROTTWEILER owner in your eyes? ME!!! I had never owned a rottie until about 2 1/2 years ago. My faince already had Bentley and believe me, i am 120 lbs. and Bentley is 130. I never thought i would have thought such a large dog could be such a great loverboy!!! i believe anyone can be a great rottweiler owner. Most of them are great with kids, but they are so darn big. If someone is going to have a rottie, take care of it as if you would a child. That is my theory. Except when they are outside. A dog should be a dog but it takes alot of time and commitment-I have four babies. Lots of PATIENCE!!!!
