Re: hi new to rotties question

what do you mean by support dog? Do you mean emotionally? physically?

forgive me for asking but will your health problems prevent you from taking care of him? If not... I'm sure you two will grow together and help each other get through tough times. Rotts are full of love.

Re: hi new to rotties question about Rottweiler as support dog

Hi and welcome Jessie. I think a well trained rottie will be an excellent support dog. They seem to be natural care takers. There was a book written once (fiction) called Karl. It was a childrens book but none the less, it was about a rottweiler who took care of a child. If I remember correctly. the book was inspired by the owners Rottweiler. I have an 18 month old girl named Lola. Recently, my 92 year old mother moved in with us. I was very nervous about having an energetic rottie and a very slow senior together. I had visions of the dog pushing her out of the way etc. I was so blown away by the way the dog takes care of my mother. Lola picks up everything that drops on the floor and brings it to her. She goes down the steps very slowly actually blocking each step so mom does not fall. She brings her toys and places them gently on her lap. Tug is letting mom win with no barking or growling like she does with me. If my mother is on the couch, she will jump up on the other side and crawl over to her as opposed to jumping on the couch when I'm on it and need to duck out of the way. These dogs are the most intelligent on the planet. They may not do a lot of tricks but they use their judgement in every situation. Good luck with your new boy, you will bring each other much joy.
