Rottweiler Mix-Is Homeowners Different?

Need to find out--my friend at work with the Bullmastiff/rottie mix--has state farm.... they recently bought a house, before they got her. They asked if she had any animals, at that time. Of course, they said no, as they didn't, but now they've since gotten her.

Should they contact state farm now, and if so do you all think that will be any different since she is a mix, versus a purebred. I don't personally like State Farm from my own experience, and from what I remember others on here possibly they are very picky. ??

Thanks for any advice, I will pass it on...They just got married, and I've referred her here, so hopefully she can post for herself soon... just trying to help. thanks.

Re: Rottweiler Mix-Is Homeowners Different?

We have had State Farm for 25+yrs without a problem! They are one of the few insurers that do not have any stipulations regarding specific breeds! As a courtesy and a precaution, I would have your friend notify SF that they now own a dog.
Best wishes-

Re: Rottweiler Mix-Is Homeowners Different?

We have had State Farm for YEARS and owned Rottweilers, pit bulls and boxers - NEVER a problem - they view each reported bite individually - with no breed specific language at all. I agree with notifying them of the dog. Your friend should NOT hear there is a problem at all! Tell her to thank her agent for working for a company that doesn't breed discriminate!

We also have State Farm, and no problem with a Rottweiler or African Grey parrott. From what I understand, State Farm allows individual agents to decide what to allow on a policy. We are lucky enough to have an agent who is a great guy, and an animal lover to boot, and he told us that we have nothing to worry about.

Re: Rottweiler Mix-Is Homeowners Different?

Just wanted to follow up on my co-workers behalf... they did call and let State Farm know and they didn't even ask about what breed or seem to even really be concerned. Great news!!

thanks all..

Re: Rottweiler Mix-Is Homeowners Different?

I am glad it worked out for your co-worker. I wanted to mention though that for companies that DO ban certain breeds it being a MIX won't matter. I remember the American Family page stated that Rottweilers, anything mixed with a rottweiler were banned.
