feeding Dozer

Dozer has all ways ate treat from my hand but never his dog food. When I first tried to give him dog food from my hand he wouldn't take it. When he did start to eat it from my hand he looked uneasy and I could see him tense up. Now he eats dog food from my hand untesned and tail wagging.
With his toys he hasn't been growling or any thing but still tries to stand guard over them. He will sit for a treat when he has a toy, or drop a toy for treat. It is getting better but we still have a ways to go.

Re: feeding Dozer

While doing Dozera afternoon walk my bfs 11 year old daughter(Samantha) was outside, Dozer walked right over to her tail just a wagging. He was takeing treats from her flat hand very gentlely(sp?). Samantha walked around with Dozer and I for about 30 minutes.

Re: feeding Dozer

MissMary - your good attitude, along with your dedication and progress thus far makes me smile And no dampers intended here - except to say that "trust" can be a dangerous thing - given too quickly, you can set yourself and the dog up to fail. Keep up the good work, but always, always be one step ahead of Dozer/Sadie in reading the situation, their body language, etc., so you can react quickly to avoid anything negative happening!

Re: feeding Dozer

I try to keep a close eye on their body language. He was acting the same why he does when he sees my adult daughter and I am walking him. But I keep a very close whatch of him as well as of Samantha. I can't read his or Sadies reactions to other animals, so I just keep them away.

Re: feeding Dozer

YAY! A feeling of accomplishment for you! And the beginnings of a couple nicely behaved dogs in the making.

Re: feeding Dozer

I saw a rottweiler yesterday (1yr old) at the dairy queen, I had Gypsy with me and this dog was beautiful, I asked the owner a younger gal If I could pet her and she said yes, well I reconized this dogs body language as fearful she shyed away and backed up so I didnt pet her, the owner told me her previous rotty that died of heart failure at 1.5 had obedience training from my trainer so now she does it herself, but she didnt socialize her very much with people but with other dogs, I felt odd with this since she was so afraid of Gypsy! I sensed her body language and did not let my kids near her, I felt she was a very fearful dog that may bite due to that, Im glad you are making progress with the dogs, be careful and aware! You seem like a loving person
