toys

I have a kiddy pool and the only thing they will do with it is drink out of it.
I have tried a treat ball and a jolly ball, neither were interested in them.
I am going to petsmart today to try and find toys for them. I got a lot of great ideas from going threw the post here so hopefully I will find some they will like. I have a lot of ideas but if anyone has suggestions I would love to hear them.
Thanks.

Re: toys

Arwen has toys coming out of every crevis in the house. Her favorites (well... that she doesn't kill right off) are nylabones, right now shes really into her Puzzle Bone. It clicks and clacks and moves while she tries to bite it. She also has a Orbee ball that she really likes, but its more for fetch (its blue with green, looks like a planet and smells great like mint!). She has a hollee roller, jolly ball (I need an indestructaball), and squeekies that change by the week (as she eats them, inside toy only).

We havent got a kiddie pool yet as my wal-mart only had the small ones when I checked last.

Re: toys

The things that get a lot of mileage here are the Cuz, a puppy tire and the kong...Bear also loves fresh bones but we usually throw them out after a day or two.

Every once in a while I'll buy stuffed animals from the second hand store for Rear to de-stuff...he has a great time...but he doesn't like to clean up...

Edited to add: Bear also thinks the kiddie pool is a giant water dish!

Re: toys

My girls each have a dangerous yellow "Tug Snake!" It's been a favorite for years! Which reminds me they'll be needing a trip to the washer again!

We have a soccer ball with straps and a rope attatchment. They LOVE it! We also have a LARGE jolly ball with a rope thru it. They love that as well.

Raven adores her Hide-A-Squirrel plush puzzle! Sable has the Hide-A-Bee! And there's a third, Hide-A-Bird.
Hide-A-Squirrel Plush Puzzle
Hide-A-Bee Plush Puzzle
and Hide-A-Bird Plush Puzzle

Raven is also particularly fond of large size nubbly balls (round or football) to play fetch with, and squeek during the return phase!

One homemade toy: A water bottle with a handful of kibble in it, sewn inside a fleece tube, with the ends braided and knotted! Makes wonderful noise!

Oh and place hot dog slices in the middle of the pool, now and then... Stop bein' so stingy, will ya? You want them to go IN, don'cha?

Re: toys

plastic water bottles and milkd jugs make great toys and easy to come by! Sometimes if they didn't grow up with toys they don't know what to do with them. You will need to show them. Play with them, tease them with the toy till they are really interested and want it really bad then give it a toss. I think it took my boxer a year before he played with toys on his own. If you give them stuffed animals make sure you are right there to watch and then pick them up and take them with you when you go.

Re: toys

I agree that the plastic bottles are awesome I put the lids on real tight (sometimes Chopper takes them off he doesnt eat them ) and I put a few small bones in to make the bottles rattle they love them, Gypsy has a few little stuffies that are her favorite, but Chopper doesnt get them because in a matter of minutes he rips them apart, I use Kongs filled with cheese and hotdogs also beef bones, not rawhides...
Good luck

Re: toys

I have used kongs, the black ones and they ate them in a few hours. I like the bottle idea but am afraid they will eat the plastic.

Re: toys

Chopper has very strong jaws and he hasnt been able to eat apart the kongs, he is more focused on getting whats inside, I have a few tug ropes that the two play with they last a while, also if your dogs like soccer they have a soccer ball at petsmart with a tug rope on it I think its $16 it makes a good toy

Re: toys

We love this site!!! Went to petsmart and got them both a bad cuz and a nylabone rhino super tuff. They love their cuz. Dozer is acting like a puppy with it and Sadie is laying with hers. They haven't even noticed the bones yet as they are busy with the cuz.

Re: toys

Ok I am outside whatching the dogs enjoy their cuz and I really had to potty. So I went in and when I went back out I could not find either cuz!!! I search for about 10 minutes and thought OMG did they eat them. Getting a little worried at this point, asked my adult daughter to help me look. Well after another 10 minutes or so of looking she found Dozers, he burried it. Few minutes later I found Sadies, same thing she burried it. It is funny now but was scarey at first. They sure did it fast too, well next time I will get the toys before I go in, no matter how fast I think I'll be.
Also they were fighting over the toys. They stopped as soon as I spoke but I am still worried about trying to kennel them together.

Re: toys

I forgot I was going to ask if it was safe to leave the nylabones with them as long as I inspect them several times a day??? They get so board, so I would like to leave them but just not sure if it is safe.

Re: toys

Arwens Rino Nylabone (a rubbery one) didn't last 2 days before the first chunk came off. She only gets the HARD nylabones for time alone, she honestly still has the same nylabone (hard non edible, Souper bone, chicken flavor) from when she was a puppy.

She had one CUZ ball for about a month and the second one "popped" within 3 squeeks. We just got her a red kong (she had a small puppy one that she didn't like) and haven't tried it yet, may have to move to black.

Re: toys

I couldn't decide between the bones I got and the ones Cherry Heart is talking about. Sadly couldn't afford both this time. I will be going down again soon and get the other kind.
