Re: house insurance

Here is a link to a site that lists some insurance companies that will insure to homes with rotti's; also as I mentioned earlier, try Erie. Many rotti rescues can also tell you which companies do not have breed specific clauses.

Re: house insurance

Have you heard back from anyone at Country Companies yet? Usually they are right on the ball when it comes to calling people back.

Re: house insurance

Lost track of which companies you've tried. I clicked on the search engine at top and brought up one link that discusses this which mentioned several companies....if none of these companies work out, use the search engine to bring up other threads. There are A LOT of threads concerning this which do mention other companies.

Re: house insurance

Also found this:
In recent years, many homeowners have found themselves either unable to get homeowner's insurance or have had their insurance cancelled, based solely on the breed of a dog in their household. The HSUS is working to address this problem and is gathering contact information and stories from those who have experienced this dilemma. If you or someone you know has been denied homeowner's insurance or has been unable to obtain it based on the breed of dog in their home, please contact The HSUS at companionanimals@hsus.org for a contact form."

The difficulties of getting home insurance are compounded by developments in the insurance industry over the past few years related to issues ranging from disaster-related pay-outs and high settlements for trip-and-fall accidents to storm damage and mold-related claims.

PAW adopter Donna Leader suggests that it is good to be aware of insurance companies that do not discriminate against dog owners or to certain breeds.

Here are some companies that pet owners report are dog-friendly and tend not to discriminate by breed: State Farm, Farmers Insurance Group, Travelers, Liberty Mutual, United Services Automobile Association, Erie, Fireman-s Fund, Kemper, Chubb Group, Allstate and Safeco Corp.

In addition, an insurer that specializes in animal-related liability policies is Lester Kalmanson Agency Inc. at 407-645-5000.

Re: house insurance

BlattMom - I just wanted to sort of clarify a couple things here - you stated you are currently with State Farm right? And they are non-renewing you because you have a current claim, right? Is that current claim related to an incident with one of your dogs? I haven't seen a clear post of the situation and from re-reading everything, it looks like you may have had a claim against your State Farm policy and it involves your dogs. Otherwise, State Farm wouldn't care one way or another. You can file a roof claim for hail damage with State Farm and the adjuster isn't concerned about your dog ownership............BUT - if your dogs scratched, bit or otherwise injured someone, State Farm might well non-renew. A currently open claim could make things difficult in finding a new company. I'm surprised your agent didn't suggest a secondary market for you though. Have you asked about that? It's higher - but you are likely going to pay higher premiums for having a claim filed against you. I think you can expect higher premiums for three years, but don't know for sure.

Will State Farm continue to carry your policy until this claim is settled? I suspect they are non-renewing on your date of issuance. Wow - tough spot to be in - the other option might be to contact your mortgage company, because they have a vested interest in your ability to be insured. They "might" have a suggestion for you on companies in the secondary market. A lot like your financed car, the mortgage companies can insure the property and pass that on to you through your mortgage payment.

Re: house insurance

We have Allstate. We specifically asked what would happen if we ever got a bite. They will obviously raise our rates, but will still insure us and they just exclude that particular dog, not all dogs in the household. Our agent was very open with us on this as he used to breed Akitas, and had a severe bite on his property. Our agent does know what breed we have. Good luck.

Re: house insurance

sigh...one more company to try: AMICA 1-800-24AMICA
I used to have them...excellent company..consumer reports always rates them as first in customer satisfaction...don't know if they have breed restrictions but in one search regarding rotti's and homeowners I did come up with someone saying they would offer coverage...wouldn't hurt to try.
