Rottweiler a Bully Breed?

After years of owning Rottweilers maybe this is a dumb question - but I just was reading an ad for someone "rehoming" thier Rottweiler puppy and they referred to Rottweilers as being a Bully Breed....

Are they considered Bully Breeds? Like I said, I've never considered them that (I've been wrong a number of times in the past), but this is the 2nd time I've seen them referred to as that.

Thanks,
Kathy

Re: Rottweiler a Bully Breed?

Kathy as I understand it "bully breeds" refers to dogs in the Bull terrier breeds...So the American Bulldog, the Staffordshire Bull Terrier, the American Staffordshire Terrier, the American Pit Bull Terrier, Bull Terriers, and American Bull dogs.... Those are all "bully breeds" and I think some similar breeds may fall in there.

Some people seem to think that "bully" breeds are those that are perceived as bullys (pushing people and other dogs around). I think it's a misunderstanding of the word bully.

So I think you're right.. Rottweilers are not a "bully breed"

(Either that or we're both wrong )

Re: Rottweiler a Bully Breed?

No As has been posted already i think bully breeds are Pit Bulls, American Bull Dogs, ect...i thnk people just put Rottweilers in there because in alot of sentences rottweiler and pit bull roll off the tounge at the same time for people. I cannot tell you how many times after people find out i have a rottweiler they assume my 2nd dog is a pit....not that there would be anything wrong with that but...

Re: Rottweiler a Bully Breed?

I have seen rotts refered to as "Bully Breed". I think it's an ignorant generalization for aggressive dogs. It falls in line with ignorant BSL.

Caesar Milan, "The Dog Whisperer" refers to Rotts, GSD's, Dobermans and similar protective breeds as "Gladiators". He also fights actively against breed specific legislation.
