How would you be able to tell if someone has HD?
Take them to the vet and have his hips xrayed. You then submit them to OFA to get the oficial results. Your vet can sometimes tell you if your dog is dysplastic or not, but they can't always tell you if they are going to pass OFA or not.

How tall is your boy? The standard states that males should be between
24" - 27". Bitches should be between 22"-25".

Re: just a curious question

Well I have no clue how one can determine without a vet as to whether or not your dog has HD. I have an 85 lbs rott who after running displays pain. sometimes wimpers and limps after hard play with the other dogs. I assume before long they will be diagnosed with HD, and I am soo not looking forward to that time. Other than during exercise there seem to be no symptoms, and the vet thru a basic exam saw no sign of HD but you know your dog and you can tell when something isnt right. MY Rott is only 2 years old.

Re: just a curious question

There are some of us who spend time - research - effort and money to ensure our dogs are as free from HD/ED as is possible, not only because we may wish to breed from them one day but also for the health & well being of the dog & their future.
Generations of Healthy Hip Scores within a pedigree is what we all look for, and I agree that in the most HD/ED is genetic - however in some cases heavy knocks/bumps, over exercise, poor diets in the early stages can also contribute to the one off litter member that produces this diesease.
