undercoat

I was just curious if anyone else has a rott with tan coat under the black coat. If you push back one of my dogs coat, near the neck and some on the back, there is alot of tan underneath. I had never seen that before and my other rott is solid jet black everywhere except the traditional rust markings. No particular reason I am asking, just curious, or maybe he is just unique that way

Re: undercoat

Having tan colored undercoat is not incorrect as long as it doesn't show through. It doesn't sound like it does as you have push back the top coat. The heaviest undercoat is on the neck and thighs.
From the AKC standard under color, "The undercoat is gray, tan, or black". It sounds like you have a perfectly normal rottweiler.

Re: undercoat

Missy's undercoat is grey.... it shows through only in the area under her collar and in a few other areas when she is going through her biannual "molt" (one of which is going on now) When her coat stablizes again, it doesn't show through.

Re: undercoat

Nyla has the same as Missy's undercoat grey & like hers only really shows by her collar because it kinda curls up from the collar being there. But I have also read that this is normal, and as fbkeays mentioned the undercoats being of gray, tan or black, so I don't think you have any worries.

Re: undercoat

My pooch has greay undercoat at the neck and tan arounhd his hind end...when I first got him I thought it might be scarring (SPCA dog) until a friend told me about undercoat ...and once I looked closer, it was all through as opposed to just one ring around his neck...as I thought.

Re: undercoat

Sometimes dogs coats get differnet colors if they are rescue dogs.
I do not know if yours is or not but my male does have a different color
other than what you have stated.
I was told that sometimes that is true of rescues.

I am sure that if you were told that pit bulls have locking jaws and bite with 2000 psi you would believe it.
You might want to use your brain and think about what you just posted. Coat color has to do with genetics and to a small extent, diet. It has nothing to with it prior ownership status, unless of course that person dyed the coat to a different color.
I have a bridge in Brooklyn I could sell you too.
