Growth Question

I have a 18 month male, SAKO, who was fixed at 6 months. His back legs are/have out grown his front. I was wondering if the back legs grow more rapid than the front or is it my imagination his rear end and middle of his back is too high for the breed. I am beginning to worry about spine issues?????

Thanks in advance.

Re: Growth Question

I believe that is called high in the rear, do not quote me. At 18 months I believe he will stay that way, but once again I also believe that genetics play a large role. If his pedigree were late bloomers, he might be as well

Re: Growth Question

Rotties grow in spurts in different areas.
Big ears.
Girraff legs.
You get the idea.
Sooner rather than later the puzzle puppy pieces fit together.

While this may hold true for a puppy, the dog in question is 18 months of age. Most dogs get their height and length the first year of life. I would anticipate that this dog will remain high in the rear. It probably will not affect his spine, but you could always check with an ortho vet who would need to see him and do an x-ray to determine that issue.

Re: Growth Question

Do you have a picture of the dog?

I am trying to picture what you are describing here - wondering if "high in the rear" is not really "roach back". The puppy limb growth mismatch stage is long over.

Seeing a pic of the dog, standing side profile would be a help.
