| Re: My boy got hurt :( Well I hope your boy is OK I thank you for posting this and hope that it keeps someone from putting their dog in the back of a pickup truck. It is so dangerous for the dog, as you've learned. I'm glad that you won't be putting him in back anymore, and I hope you mean it when you say that.

| I'm also glad you posted this. So often we tell people NOT to let dogs ride in the back of trucks...and everybody thinks nothing will ever happen to THEIR dog....Well...it DOES happen. And it's awful. Hopefully, someone will read this post in the future and make the decision to keep their dog safe. I'm sure you feel lousy enough without any of us scolding you...and I'm VERY sorry Diesel was hurt. Give the guy a scratch for me and keep us updated! |

| Re: My boy got hurt :( Oh poor Diesel. I'm hopeful he'll have a quiet night and heal quickly. I'll bet it made him feel better to have his best buddy Kaine along at the Vet! Thank you for being brave enough to post this. You may have saved someone else from making a similar mistake.

| Re: My boy got hurt :( Just be glad yousaw him fall One of our clients had their dog in the back with the lead shut in the tool box and they made the sharp corner at the store near here (you know the one Cate and Gret) and the dog fell out. Lead slipped to the seam of the handle and stuck. Owners were oblivious and kept driving Dog somehow got to her feet and ran/dragged along (speed limit if 30ish there) 1/2 mile to the end our road, made the corner and got another 1/4 mile before the owners noticed and stopped There were bloody dog prints on the side of the road from shortly after she fell out to the bloody pool where she collapsed when they stopped. Those foot prints stayed for months. It was horrifying and make my stomach sick each time I saw them She lived but what an ordeal My best friend's dog was not so "lucky" He saw the dog falling and stopped but as the truck came to a stop it ran over the dog that was still stuck to the truck with the caught leash. He sat on the side of the road holding his dead dog that he himself killed. That image has remained with him as fresh today as it was the day it happened almost 20 years ago Give your dog a hug and get a crate for the back of the truck if he can't ride inside

| Re: My boy got hurt :( I'm sorry Diesel was hurt and I too hope others take notice of your experience and never leave a dog unrestrained on the back of a moving vehicle. In Australia it's against to law to have an dog not secured on the back of a vehicle. They must be securely leashed to a bracket on the floor of the vehicle or be in a crate that is properly secured to the vehicle. |

| Re: My boy got hurt :( In each of the two classes I have attended with Arwen I have talked to the other students about how important it is to have their dog properly secured while in a vehicle. I purchased the "traveling dog harness" when Arwen was about 15 weeks old, she wore it to her first puppy class and it was her first time in the car not inside a crate. I beleive it was on the way to her third puppy class when we stopped at a red light. We heard screeching breaks and as my husband and I turned to see what happened, we saw it was the car behind US. A Chevy Blazer slammed into the rear of our car, and Arwen never moved off the seat. The belt caught and kept her EXACTLY where she was sapose to be. Everyone was okay, but that day I walked into class with Arwen in her harness and begged people to stop putting their dogs in the backseat with no harness or the back of the truck. What would have happened if she had been back there and not buckled up? My husband would have been hit with a puppy in the back of the head as she flew through the front window. SAFTEY FIRST |

| Re: My boy got hurt :( Update on Diesel he's back home with me and his right leg he's still not using it , the Vet told me that it's going to take 4-6 montsh to heal and that's if the nerves aren't damaged to the point of no repair :(... worst case is he might lose his Leg I'm prey that doesn't happen and I will be doing everything I can to help him along the way, He's in good spirits and is learning fast to walk on 3 legs .... it just hurts to see him like this, my day at work was rough as well waiting to hear how he was doing ... I'm still hoping for the best Thanks to everyone for not being mean and all ... I'm going thro alot right now with him and I can hardly keep it together ... I Do Hope people read this and learn from what has happened to Diesel and I..... I don't want this happening to anyone else cause this is so wrong ... I know it could have been worse and I'm really happy that he didn't get ran over and killed cause I couldn't have handled that... I will keep everyone updated on his recovery..... just again Please people be safe with your Dogs |

| Re: My boy got hurt :( I've had TJ in the back of my open jeep MANY times.... HOWEVER, I've made a device that keeps him from getting ove the side. Use a good harness on the dog, (I used my leather agitiation harness) and attach it to a SHORT leash (mine is about 18 inches) and then have that clip to the bed of the truck using a heavy eye bolt or some other attachment. The bolt should be in the center of the box, and you should check that with the dog in the harness, that he can't do more than barely get his front paws up on the side of the box, but can still move around the back of the truck. Worked very well for me. If you don't want to do at least that small measure for your dog, get a truck cap so he can't get out. Will keep him shaded as well..
