Re: My boy got hurt Riding in the truck!

I just read my 1st post on this thread and it sounded kind of rude. Sorry all, that wasn't my intention. Sometimes my typing gets the best of me. Type, Type, type............

Re: My boy got hurt Riding in the truck!

So sorry to hear about Diesel but happy to hear he is home. Hopefully, he will mend quickly. Hope all take heed of this lesson well learned. Nothing further need be said.

Re: My boy got hurt Riding in the truck!

It is also illegal in the City of Calgary, yet I do see people who still do it. Makes me cringe every time ..... I wish there were more bylaw officers around to ticket.

Re: My boy got hurt Riding in the truck!

I would never do it.. I saw an old retriever in the back of a truck on our number 1 highway going about 100 km/ph. They slammed the brakes on hard to not run the red light and the dog slammed into the back of the cab and just lay there not moving and covered in blood.

They blasted off without even looking despite having 4 lanes of traffic honking and swearing at them to look at their dog.

I'm sorry your dog got hurt. I used 2 tell my ex husband never 2 put our my boy Maverick in the back of his truck, but he never would listen. But he never really cared 4 Maverick in the first place b cause I think he was jealous of mine and his relationship. He used 2 take his belt off and act like he was going 2 hit Maverick. He was just a baby then, but now he is soon 2 b 6 years old in May and weighs over 122lbs. I'd like 2 c my x try anything with him now!!!! God bless your dog!!!!!!!!

Re: My boy got hurt Riding in the truck!

I read this a while ago, and it brought back so many memories of our first rottie dog, Apollo. He was truly a gentle giant, and he is the reason that I love this breed so. My husband and his partner were going out on a job, and I was gone for the weekend. They didn't want Apollo to be alone, so they loaded him up on his favorite blanket in the back of the work truck. Then, in went the tools, and the back cap was closed and latched. At about 60 mph, Apollo got spooked by something, and out he went - over the air compressor and crashed through the cap door. We still don't know what caused it or how he managed it - the strength is unimaginable. We thought we'd done it right. Now, the only way our pets travel is crated or in the backseat of the cab (that we didn't have back then). I read one thread that said traveling with a cap on is okay, and I just wanted to use my story that with this breed and their strength that it is not okay. We all know how they can go through doors and windows - truck caps are usually made cheaper than those. Apollo survived the fall but not the surgery. The vet surgeon thought he threw a clot in his lungs, and he died on the operating table. That was 10 years ago, and I remember him like he was with me yesterday.

How terrible for you and for Apollo. You can never imagine such a thing happening. I am sure it will be something that will always be in your mind.

Re: My boy got hurt Riding in the truck!

Hi all, I am new her and I just got my first Rot 2 months ago, Bella Bitty Marie. What a blessing she is. Like others have said this is no time for a scolding but is it so hard to vacuum a vehicle out rather than have them in the back where they are never safe? I hope for a fast recovery for Diesel, so sad to here!

This thread is now 2 years old so I guess the situation has resolved itself one way or another.

Re: My boy got hurt Riding in the truck!

Not to judge, but being a hypocondriac I always backed off when I seen a truck with a dog in the bed of the truck. I would be so so scared of what might happen with the dog there. I don't care about hair in my vehicle, even if the animal prefered being in the bed, I would much rather have them in the cab with me.
