Re: My boy got hurt Riding in the truck!

I have really bad news everyone

I got his xrays done and him looked at and his elbow is locked into place and won't fully extend... plus he does have part nerve damage and he won't lift his wrist up but he will curl it down .... so what it comes done to is I have to take his leg off ... The Vet also said he could do a CT scan but with the nerve damage he won't use that leg.... so now I'll have to keep him to low impacked things ... tons of swimming that for sure :) and he does love that

I bought him a new pillow today while I was waiting he's half laying on it and his old one (still all grwagy from being knocked out)

So please to anyone who is reading this and lets thier dog ride in the back please take this as a big warning ......

I will post some picture before this during and after times,

last note ... I love this guy to death and I will do anything for him till he has the best life possiable :)

Re: My boy got hurt Riding in the truck!

Nerull! The absolutely greatest dog I have ever known {{{ BOGART, You Gorgeous dog, I LOVE YOU AND I KNOW YOU ARE THRILLING THEM IN HEAVEN}}} had to have a leg removed due to bone cancer. This, I swear to you with all my heart, did not affect his majestic bearing one iota. He was out walking a day or so after surgery! We met people every day (Bogie was my friend's dog) who didn't even notice the loss (not to say that what anyone thinks would be important!) I only mean to say that as shocking as it is at first, the dog was perfectly fine with it. If it turns out that this is what you need to do for Diesel to live without pain, I will be sad for you but happy that he is comfortable. Thank you for keeping us updated on his condition. Please spoil him a bit for me! If I could send him filet mignon I darn well would.

Re: My boy got hurt Riding in the truck!

I'm so sorry to hear about your boy's leg....I'm always heartbroken when I hear these things...I almost want to print this story up into a flyer and put it under the windshield wiper of every truck I see that has a dog in the back of it....

Luckily, dogs adjust amazingly well with only 3 legs...I think we worry about it more than they do!!

Keep us updated...we are thinking of both of you!

Re: My boy got hurt Riding in the truck!

In NY it is against the law for anything breathing - people or dogs, etc. - to ride in the open back of a pickup. It is illegal to drive your truck without a cover when it isn't being used to haul things too. I think that is a good law.

One day I was driving home from work and in front of me a pickup pulled from the side road and onto the road in front of me. The traffic slowed down as there was a train crossing, and lo and behold this old lab came limping along and jumped into the truck. It had fallen out somewhere back when I didn't see. I called the police and followed the truck into a shopping center. The police were on their way when the guys got back in the truck and headed for a busy highway. Last I saw the cops were in pursuit.

You cannot ever be sure what will cause a dog to jump or if you stopping short will throw it onto the roadway, etc.

Re: My boy got hurt Riding in the truck!

Terribly sorry to hear about the dog. I couldn't imagine if that ever happened!! I once had a dachshund in the front seat of my old truck and he saw a cat and jumped out at 40+ with his leash in my hand. thank God he didn't touch the ground with his little legs!! I have a 4door Honda and a Corvette. We have 2 rotties and two mean, ferocious 5 and 10lb dogs. When they go with us, we find them a place in the backseat. We just sold our truck- a brand new dodge ram-mega cab- and we didn't care if they messed it up; that was their truck too. I don't believe a dog should ever ride in the back of a truck, personally. What if an actual car accident happened? there is no wayto make sure the dogs could be safe.

Re: My boy got hurt Riding in the truck!

Well I have to say I'm sorry I havn't done an update on this in months :(

but I do have alot of things to say that happened during that time :)

I've had xrays done to his Elbow because I can't open up fully .. it stops half way no matter how much I put into it I'll have to break it ( Doctor said the same thing:) ) but the xrays don't show anything as to why it's not moving so I am going to go back and get a CT scan of his Elow and more xrays of his sholder ..... I tell ya it's not cheap for this stuff and I regret for not getting Insurance :(

his Stats are

29' at sholder

93lbs ish

Very lean but he is just super toned I tried everything to bulk him lol doesn't work so I stick to a reg amount now :)

Most people that Meet Diesel ( at first look) he doesn't seem hurt... I've also had my park Manger come to my house about complaint about " Diesel" barking too much .... lmao cause he's the quitest one out of all the dogs barking .... people had said he was barking aggrivesly at them .... most was cause they made a point at walking on the edge of my side of the road lol.... but he's a great dog moves about just the same and I have to slow him down all the time .... I have started taking him on hikes and I am very surprived on how well he does and will go loves the snow "ice" and falling into creeks " shallow" :)

I have pictures and I will try to shrink them so I upload them to show everyone :)

any more question feel free to ask :)

Big thanks from Both of Us for all your best wishes :)

Re: My boy got hurt Riding in the truck!

aww well i'm glad he's okay and doing well!! Where i live its normal to see animals (and people!) riding in the backs of trucks, but I would personally never do it, that, and I don't own one lol...but congrats to both of you and I hope you all had a great Christmas!
