Re: My boy got hurt :(

Oh goodness! The last thing you need is for someone to be mean. You and your boy have been thru enough.

I'll keep you both in my prayers. This is a tremendous blow for you. And Diesel has lots of healing to do. I'm sure you're taking the best ever care of him. Again thanks for being so brave, (risking even an inadvertant scolding) to let others know not to make the same mistake.

Re: My boy got hurt :(

I hope that Deisel heals well, and I'm glad that you learned a very valuable lesson.

I wanted to get a truck to pull a gooseneck horse trailer with, but Hubby said no. He thought I was planning on putting the dogs in the bed. NO WAY!!

Re: My boy got hurt :(

yes sorry I've been working long hours so I haven't had the time

Diesel is getting along good he's walking even better now on 3 legs... he's still not putting any weight on his leg but he still has feeling in it cause when it moves some ways it hurts him (which is a great sign).... also my friends Mom is a natruopath and she tested his hair to see with is wrong with him and she found out that there was no nerve damage but really bad musle tear so that will take time to heal ... such great new for my big guy and myself

his stiches are healing good as well ... just gotta keep an eye on him so he doesn't chew them :)

Re: My boy got hurt Riding in the truck!

I watched a Rotti go flying out the back of a truck a month ago because he wasn't properly secured. Truck hit the brakes to avoid a collision, rotti went flying, got hit by an oncoming car and then went off running freaked right out. It was horrible! Secured or not, my dog will never ride in the back of a truck.

I'm sorry to hear about your boy being hurt.

One thing I'd like to add to all of this is, PLEASE also remember that when using a metal crate in the back of a truck, make sure that the door is securely shut. The vibration is sometimes enough to loosen the latches to the door. You may want to use some sort of clips for extra security.

Get cap for back of the truck. Maybe a 6.5' cap or 8' cap.

And fasten the crate down too! The whole crate can fly out the back.
bolt it or use tie downs.

Re: My boy got hurt Riding in the truck!

The other day on the HWY I saw an old pickup truck that didn't have a tail gate. Tied in the back where 2 border collies on about 6 inch leads. The 2 dogs were having a fight, I mean a full bore I am going to kill you fight. The only thing they could reach on each other was eachothers face. I called animal control, but knowing how things are here in Wyoming they didn't do anything, and I wonder how the 2 dogs are doing. I don't know how the man couldn't hear them fighting they were tied right by the cab.

Re: My boy got hurt Riding in the truck!

I'm glad your baby is doing so good! It really could have been a lot worse. And it taught you and your friend w/the truck a good lesson. No more dogs in the back of trucks! I had the unfortunate incident of seeing a border collie JUMP out of the back of a pickup truck on I95 in South Florida. If any of you aren't familiar with it they say it is called I95 b/c people go 95 mph. Traffic slowed for a second and the dog made a break for it. He didn't land very pretty and bounced up as high as our SUV's door and rolled and rolled. We stopped and pulled over and so did the dog's owner. We attempted to get to the dog but he was so spooked that as soon as he stopped rolling he took off full speed up the interstate in the grass median. The dog's owner didn't even go after him! And the sad part was his 2 kids were in the backseat and had to witness that! We yelled at him to go get his dog as we were going to go after HIS dog, and finally he did. We tried to look for him but he was long gone. We think we saw the owner take the next exit off the interstate. He didn't want to be bothered! He was probably on the way to the pound to drop him off anyways! So, not only can dogs fall out, they can jump out as well. The poor dog must have been so scared surrounded by 4 lanes of loud, noisy, traffic. Luckily he was driving in the left lane so the dog landed on the shoulder. If not that could have been a terrible accident as well! I think about that poor dog often. I'm sure he couldn't have survived. So at least life at the bridge is better then life with that guy who didn't even care about him! So, count yourself lucky!

I couldn't have been happier to see him swimming and having a blast in the water I am taking him again today and tomorrow... so he'll have some awesome excerisefrom all this swimming ....

he's on the road to a good recovery but untill he starts putting pressure on it I won't know for sure.
