Re: To take Rita home or not?

Klandry, I too am sorry to hear of Rita's medical problems. All I can say is WHY after all the time she was housed they didn't have her checked out? What a shame...heartworm testing is easy and cheap. As it continues,it progresses to effect her quality of life.

I do work with rescue...one of the first tests is for heartworm.
I hope you can get her home......love her and give her a final life!

But ask anyone in rescue and we will all say the same thing....we CAN'T save them all

Bless you and good luck!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: To take Rita home or not?

Oh I just read through the past few pages and got such a happy feeling when you said you were going to take her home, I am so sorry that you have now found out about the possible problems she may have :(. I am glad you have been around her though and that she is getting love from you. I hope she is ok, goodluck.

Re: To take Rita home or not?

The vet called yesterday and said that Rita is doing a little better. She is able to walk now and is breathing a little better. He said she was drinking very good but not eating very well. She has a bad case of heart worms, congenital heart failure which was causing her to have trouble breathing and an embolism in her lung. He also said that he'd like to remove the two calcified masses on her legs but she was too critical to do that now. They are giving her medicine to dissolve the embolism, blood pressure medicine & antibiotics. Hopefully she will be able to come home today. I don't know how much longer she will make it but I do know I am not the only one wanting to take her home now. Our electrician here at the facility also wants to bring her home. I think that I might allow him to have her rather than myself because all his children are grown and mine are still young, if Rita passes away it will be easier for him than for me to go through that again with my children. However, regardless of who she goes home with, I will keep you updated. So far things are looking a little better for her and thanks for thinking of us!

Re: To take Rita home or not?

You, and your electrician co-worker, are both angels for wanting to give this sweet girl lucky breaks she has never had. Good for you, and do keep us posted!

Thumbs up Re: To take Rita home or not?

I'm sorry I haven't updated anyway, we've all been very upset. We were able to bring Rita home on that Thursday after her emergency visit with the vet. She died that night, although I know she was very sick I can't help but feel angry at the vet for giving us false hope. He knew how bad her condition was but led us to believe she would live for a few more years; only to rack up a huge vet bill and have her die immediately after returning her to us. Thank you all for your kindness and help. I do know now that I absolutely want a Rott as my next pet, I just hope they will be as good as Rita.

Thank you all!

I am so sorry to hear this. Bless you for trying so hard and being with her at the end. At least she knew someone cared.

I'm so sorry to hear of Ritas passing. You are an angel for doing what you did do though, and will be rewarded down the road with a great new addition - I can just feel it!

Re: To take Rita home or not?

I am so sorry to hear about Rita. But, I know that she knew that you cared about her and will love you forever for trying to help her.

Another one will come along... you have a Rottie angel now who will help send the right dog to cross your path.
