Toys Recommended

It seems our rotti pup chews up every toy he has in less than a day. Can anyone recommed some good toys that is durable and can't be destroyed so quickly?

Also, some of these toys are expensive. Can anyone recommend a mail order service that might be cheaper??

Thanks

Re: Toys Recommended

I order almost all of Arwens toys online.

She has nylabones (not the edible ones), tuffies, "planetdog" ball that smells like mint (soooo nice), a jolly ball, holleroller, a big green Cuz (squeeky rubber ball with feet), an everlasting treat ball by triple crown. These are toys she has had for awhile. Other toys come and go but these really have laster for us and she LOVES to chew!!

Tuffies - Stuffed toys with squeeks and lots of strong stiching. Hard to distroy. www.mydogtoy.com

Re: Toys Recommended

I second the nylabone and the cuz...Bear has also had a tire biter bone...toys by kong are also nearly indestructible...especially the black ones!

I buy often on e-bay...what you have to remember is that sometimes it seems like a lot of $$ but they often last 6-7times longer than cheapie toys.

Also if she likes to chew...get her some raw beef bones, they are usually about as cheap as they come!

Just make sure you:
1) Scoop out the marrow as it bothers many dogs stomachs
2) keep an eye on her when she is chewing...make sure that you take it away as soon as pices start to come off making sharp edges.

Bear playes more with a bone than he does with any of his expensive toys!

Re: Toys Recommended

We have a huge collection of Nylabones around the house. I think Julius has every size & shape. We purchased the majority of them from UPCO & they are pretty cheap there. Julius still has the Nylabone that we got for him when he was 9 weeks old, so although that might cost more than a rawhide...they really last. Worth it, IMO.

Re: Toys Recommended

Sign up for petsmart or petco newsletters and sometimes they offer free shipping! My dogs really like the hard plastic fire hydrant walmart sells. It is very tough. Xander also loves frisbees to slid across the floor on. It really wears him out, too! Get the rubbery type, though because I bought a couple that were easily cracked when he bit down and were then very sharp.

Re: Toys Recommended

If she likes to tug, I make my own. Braided cotton ropes. There cheap and replacable. Remember with tug though you start and stop the game on your terms.

Re: Toys Recommended

For a tug toy we just purchased one at PetSmart made by KONG. It is two hard plastic peices shaped like a Kong (the beehive shape). The two small ends are connected with a peice of Black kong and there is black kong coating the two wide ends so that we can both grab hold and pull pull pull! Its really strong and soft on the hands/teeth.

Maybe not, but Blitz's sister can. I'm a witness

Two toys that have lived long and healthy lives in my house are the Invincible Chain (got it at PetSmart) and Hurley bones (ordered from www.sitstay.com)

Re: Toys Recommended

Invincible Chains laster several months here, they are still in good enough shape to tug with but there is a chunk out of the middle ring.

Edit: I had never been to sitstay before.. but I just found the coolest toy ever!! Its a toy that is velcrowed together, so your dog can rip it to peices (they love the sound) and then you can put it back together so they can do it again!!

Re: Toys Recommended

Our dog had a toy that was velcro that he could rip apart. He LOVED it and it lasted forever. Mabe because he thought he was ripping it, or the noise and feel satisfied the urge. It was plush, so it's not that it was indestructible. He would rip the pieces apart (6 of them) and shove them all in his mouth, walk over, and drop them at our feet. Then we'd put it back together and it would begin again. He did eventually destroy it, but it lasted longer than any other plush toys.

I got this thing for Denver....It lasted him...till my hubby ran it over with the ride-on mower....he loved the toy....my only concern was that he might get his toe stuck in the hole...
You might be able to make one yourself if you get the parts at the hardware store.

ps if you visit their site...Denver is on there!

Re: Toys Recommended

I have found that you dont have to spend money on quality entertaining toys for your pup. I am sure this is not news to many of you. Winston absolutely loves empty peanut butter jars. I keep the lid on them tight, It is a plastic JIF Jar, lasts him forever, and he loves it. Short bouts of fun for him are icecubes. Or even a nice study box of some sort.

Re: Toys Recommended

Gunner has torn a Nyla bone to bits, And chewed the end off of his Tire biter Retriever stick, Destroyed both the Action Ball, soccar balls, and basketballs, so any toy that is still intact-either he likes or can't destroy. Here are his faves:

-A big blue hard plasctic ball (that you can fill with sand)
He enjoys "herding" it with his nose around the yard
- His CUZ ball-HE will bring it to you and make "music" for you
- Invincible Rings-are still alive, and he loves tugging and fetching
them. I also taught him "leave it" with his Invincible Rings. They
Might not look tough, but they can sure take a beating!!!
- HIS NEW FAVORITE- A five gallon Advanced Auto Parts wash bucket
Originally intended to be one of his summer water dishes, I emptied it out
one day and he has played with it ever since! it has the handle removed
for his safety, and is pretty malleable plastic-if it cracks, we can replace
it.

Other items in his future might include a baby pool for him to splash in and a cleaned up tire for him to play with-(he likes big stuff)

Re: Toys Recommended

Plastic buckets containers and bottles jars are fine but I would only use them supervised and I'd check them over for cracks or sharp surfaces often. The same also goes for bones.
