| Growth after 18 months Everyone, This is the first Rottweiller we have ever had. So we don't quite understand all the development issues as well as you experienced owners and breeders. We love our dog just the way he is but I do have a growth/Development question. Our dog is now 18 months old. We took him to the vet for shots the other day. I asked how much more weight and growth was going to happen. The vet said he is probably fully grown height wise. She also said he may put on another 5 pounds are so. Breeders say development continues to happen up until 3 years old. Could some one out there tell me what they have experinced in this area with their on dogs |

| Re: Growth after 18 months Height by 12 to 18 months. Head and body weight 18 months to 3 years. Some of the early developers don't look like much when they get to be 3 or 4. I personally like a dog that develops slowly and looks wonderful at 4, 5, 6, 7. I also like to see young dogs on the thin side.

| Re: Growth after 18 months Oscar's still very slim, he's 13 m/o and intact. I'm assuming he will bulk/widen up with age like his parents who were both quite thick. My dh's last rotti didn't finish fully growing until almost 3 y/o (width wise). I often get "is he pure bred?" and then they're surprised when I say "uh yeah!" because he's not "huge!". haha! He's 100 lbs but very tight and trim looking, people expect a rotti to be full size at 1 year like most other dog breeds but it's not the "usual" for these guys. They're slow developers. haha |

| Re: Growth after 18 months Denver is an intact male...he is 14 months and weight 99.6 pounds this week at the vet. He is trim...you cannot see his ribs...and he is far from being bulky at all.. His head is not huge but is broad enough. Some people also ask if he is mixed with doberman because he is not "huge"(fat)... Alot of the growth also has to do with the genetics....but basically their height stops at about 1 and their muscle "bulk" comes in the next few years.

| Re: Growth after 18 months If he's intact, he's probably done growing height and length-wise. Neutered dogs (especially those neutered young, like at 6mos) will grow taller for longer, as testosterone controls closure of the growth plates. When a male is neutered the control of the testosterone is gone and they grow for longer. In terms of dogs still developing until 3, usually that's more mentally than physically, though some slow developing lines may still be filling out at 3.

| Re: Growth after 18 months Oh I often get asked the question also: Is he pure bred or is he dober mix! Mine is also very tall and slim, he is 14 months but his head is huge now :) I just neutered him so he will slowly (hopefully) get his filling :) But he weighs about 110 pounds now. (still slim so he´s big) I have seen big changes on his figure the past month like he´s just starded to look more mature. Love, Freyja and Susti. |
