why are rottweillers black?

i kno it is a bit random but why are rottweillers black and tan, it just seems that they get so hot, where they originally came from was it cold?

Are you asking this because Siberian Huskys may have alot of fur because they lived in Siberia and they are used in the snow?? Why are Labs Black?? Or Pit Bulls? Or any dog for that matter

If you will notice many service type dogs are black - people in uniform don't want white dog hair on their uniforms.

Flock guarders are white to blend in.

Dogs from warm climates have erect open ears to help with cooling.

Dogs from colder climates have small closed ears to retain body heat.

I was just thinking about my mother in law she had mentioned about the army dogs on the base they were dobes then I thought about the dark color being a factor I was unaware of the ears that is interetsing

I think, as the story goes: the Rottweiler was busy doing some loyal task when colors and things were being passed out. Plume tails were gone. The black was "leftover" amoung the choices. The Rottie took everything in stride, accepting his black hair and short no-nonsense coat. But as a reward for his loyalty and accepting attitude the angels bestowed kisses over their faces, eyes, and feet. The bow tie is from a the hug the angels gave each of them, and the tush? Well that was the tush push to get them from heaven to the earth when they are born.

Oh I LOVE this, have you noticed the tiny bit of brown undercoat that some have around the tops of the ears, where they join the head... I call them their angel wings... apologies for being mushy.

Rottweilers had many colors initially but ppl decided they look best with black and tan. This color combination was actualy more rare than the others. You can still see puppys that are born with different coloration ( gray, brown, orange instead of black) but they are not used for breeding. I think dobermans are allowed to have some of those colors. Im not sure i remember right but i think the most common color used to be orange with yellow markings. It has nothing to do with the environment, its just selection.
